Where I live we have consumer laws that say that a product should last long enough relatively to the price paid for it. If i have a 1000$ tv that comes with a 2 years warranty and it breaks after 3 years i can still claim warranty, and go to small claim court if necessary. Here extended warranties are considered a scam.

Nightmare thread...

Sounds too soon for all these Rens to be breaking.

Does the warranty cover accidental damage? If so... Months before it ends "accidently" spill coffee on it to have it fully replaced.

I do this with some electronics. If the warranty covers accidents and can be fully replaced sometimes I buy it.

But here's your opportunity to drop it.

Over, and over, and over...

From high places.

Between the legs.

In a house,
with a mouse.

This phoney MPC irritates me sam I am,
I'd rather bang out a beat on green eggs and ham.

I would definitely keep the warranty. On the other hand you want to know WHAT it replaces. I mean if you shell out x amount of money on that thing you need to know the details.

If it breaks in 2.5 yrs, what happens? They fix it free? They replace it free?
If its a replacement, is it even swap? or a refurbed unit?

Do they replace based on value? And if so, is it based on the value AT THE TIME of the replacement ,rather than at the time of purchase?

How bout if its NOT a replacement plan, and JUST an extended warranty, that usually means that it has to go to an authorized service center, and the warranty seller foots the bill. Much like taking it to an authorized service center out of warranty, except you foot the bill in that case. IF and when that happens, do you have to PAY for shipping? Or just take it to GC and they send it out, and get it back fixed.

These are ALL things I would want to know before they got 1 red cent of my money for a "warranty". Not to mention, if you pay full retail anyway, sites like AMS and sweetwater include a 2 year warranty FOR FREE!

A standard warranty doesn't necessarily cover things like spilling a cup of coffee on your MPC. But if an extended warranty cover things such as this?

extended warranty isnt bad idea, being new product no one knows its longevity as it's known with legacy mpcs...after all there already been few broken buttons and other reported problems with ren

The devil is in the details. All stores push these warranties but in the actually policy that you quickly find out that a swap for a new unit isn't guaranteed as the salespeople say. They usually don't guarantee the the turn-around time time for he repairs so you have no real idea of when your unit will be returned.

I went ahead and got the 3 year warranty on the Ren from GC today. I got the Ren on clearance for 1099 so the extra 180 isn't as bad as had I paid full price. Normally I never buy warranties, but considering the Ren's untested track record at this point, I'd rather have the coverage should a pad quit working 2 years down the line. I'm sure the devil is in the details, but it does cover somethings Akai's one year warranty doesn't, like damage from electrical spikes and accidental.

damn that GC price is even kinda high given what I've seen recently.

I got mine literally like NEW for 650 about 2 weeks ago.
But as for NEW in the box, there are several places you can cop from that are going for like 949, 979, 995, 999, etc. If you can find even ONE of those places that is AUTHORIZED to sell Akai, simply print up the add, and take it in for a price match.

So long as its an authorized seller, you usually good to go. Sometimes they wanna confirm its in stock at the place they are matching, and thats if its online, that they have a brick and mortar(overhead). But I buy 90% of my new gear via price matches. Im just not for spending more than I have to. Not with as often as updates for SW come out. Need every penny workin its ass off.

edot: come to think of it, I even had a friend in Toronto that got one New from Long and McQuade for under 1000. And thats Canada! everything cost extra there. lol

After only 6months, My Headphone volume knob and Master volume knob are faulty. Sounds pass trough when at minus, crackles when turning ).

I wait the 11th month to return it to Thomann.de , they send me a return *.pdf last month. I´ll ask for another return document in mid-september to see if another default appears. I bought the REN in Mid-October 2012.
