Anyone use their 4k like a sound module?

I've noticed how increasingly lazy I've become (atleast I'm not in denial

Diggin, and choppin for instruments and one hits to put togethor is much to time consuming for myself

Hell even spendin the time goin thru all the various samples(whole instruments) takes too much time, especially when Im in the creative mood, I just want to keep goin, and loading loading loading really kills my mood

I am considering putting togethor an autoload when I turn on my pc, it will automatically fill the ram up my fav pianos, guitars, synths, bass, drums, strings etc etc, which I think will help my flow alot better, although it will be a **** when Im sampling

Has anyone tackled something like this with their mpc yet?

I did exactly the same thing. My favourite drums, basses, fx, you name it, all load up to the mpc, leaving some margin of ram for extra bits and peices. Just load the ram up with all your favorite presets, name the first sequence Autoload. then in the hd create a folder called Autoload and hit save... then choose Save entire memory to HD. and save it

VOILA, when you switch on the mpc, all your favorite sounds load in one long go.... enough time to roll one or two... or grab a beer at the local.. I leave my mpc running when I'm into a project.... saves precious time

i haven't purchased either but have read the manuals for an mpc 60 and the roland mv8k. time stretch is the only kewl feature of that machine. linear sequencing blows for creating complex melodies. while it may appear to be ezier at first glance to sequence on a linear sequencer organzation wise i believe progamable sequecning is superior.

i thought thats why its so ill cause u can make your own board , and always load a lot fast and keep it movin

since I have no other gear around me at the moment, just traveling with my 4k I set up a whole bunch of sounds and kits, there are two prolems I hit,

first the memory, with over 500 programs loaded and 1500+ samples, I didn't have too much free ram left although I can always exspand via another 250 and run 500mb, but still I had 32mb in my Xl and I was ok with that..

the 2nd problem: scrolling though 100's samples becomes tedius, so a new feqature to add to the wishlist: create a "veiw option" of samples&progams: only veiw: "modified, "new, or grouped ect..


also arrangin thouse 100's of programs by program numbers is a rather slow task as you can only do one at a time, anyone know of a quicker way maybe via akasys?

when I get my studio up and running I think I'll take most of the synths sounds out though and free the mpc and its outputs to focus more on samples rather than everything..

& btw once you've found & set up all the programs/kits you need in your sound/multi, its very usefull to first

*purge all unused programs

and follow that up

*with delete all unused samples from memory

so when you save a session, it only saves the kits/samples in use,

both these comands can be found in the sample and program delete windows and under global/ memory

would i be crazy to upgrade my mpc2xl to a mpc4000

so that i can sample my synths (triton, emu) into the mpc4000 so all my sounds are in one spot?

I hate having to save files on my mpc, and on my keyboards, plus i could sell sample cds. WOULD THIS be overkill?

i think it's definateley the way to go... when I do live pa's, there's nothing worse than having to load up 4 or five different synths and taking them with you...
what I did was make a song which I called RECORD.... and Record 2... on of them is all the notes of the keyboard, one played just with a short hit, one with sustained notes depending on what type of sound it is... pads or short hits... then I just hit play and choose the sound I want to record...

I then record into pro tolls and compress slighltly, normalize or what ever and then I save it as a wav file.... then I open Recycle and chop it up... export as Akai prog.... and save that on a different hard drive dedicaterd to the akai.... then I open akai sys and just drop the file onto the mpc from the computer... for example, I have a PK6 with all the extra sound roms and there's soime nice drums. It takes one minute to record all the keys, one minute to compress and normalize, 20 seconds to save as wav, 10 secs to open recycle and then to chop is real easy, I know how many bars I recorded.... then just export as akai file... 5 minutes and you got
66 hits into the mpc, full level and compressed.

akai sys is fantastic, couldn't be easier to tweak presets.... honestly the 4000 is the way to go....

on the mpc4000 then......

would it be possible to record some notes short, and some long sustain notes like you said, then create velocity layers? like the harder you hit a key (if you have a controller hooked up) you switch from long to short?

ok it's real simple... I have quite a few sound modules that I sampled all the sounds from in order to create what I call super banks...

I record a song in the mpc which is maybe 60 bars long and all it is is one hit on each key of the keyboard say every two measures or so... RECORD ONE is basically short stabs and RECORD TWO is sustained notes for bass lines or certain pads....

for example my emu module has loads of sim upgrades and loads of extra sounds.... what I do is hit record in protools and the mpc plays each note.... then I have one big wav file that's like a minute long and I give it a name say KICKS or snares.... then I save that original file to a hard drive that has all the banks which are the canvas for my tweaking... then all I do is run the file through plug ins and save the files with different effects. time stretching etc and it's saved as a new wav file each time. One recording with different effects etc will be a new bank each time I save it... ....

next step is to open that file in recycle and hit the sensitity until you get all the different samples.... Export as AKP (akai program file) and save each
preset in a file with the same name.... I can make 10 banks of 60 sounds in a matter of minutes, no joke.... then... once I have say 10 or 20 presets, I just dump the file onto the akaisys and all the sounds are layed on the pads and ready to go....

To find a wav sound in the 4000 more quickly, you gotta go into the program window, select the right program and hit the pad correspending to the wav sound you´re after. Now hit the "sample" key and your sound should be highlighted.

in use as in Assigned to a pad? or used in the piano roll?
