Just curious if anybody knows the exact time stretch % to bring 45 to 33 :hmmm:

you wanna tune it down about 5.2 semitones... i can't even remember how the s950 displays semitones right now though...

45/33=1.3636 or 136.36%

You abviously want to lengthen the sample so it takes longer time to play thus reducing the beats per minute and that is the formula

Never tried it like that but will do :)

It's not supposed to be a timestretch, as Crossings states, it's a tune down of 5 semitones, as you are returning the sample to its original pitch (and length) by offsetting the pitch change caused by using 45 RPM on a 33 record.

The main purpose is to save memory, so timestretching isn't going to do that, but tuning will as it's an internal process applied after the original is sound is already in memory. Timestretching is also going to mess up any nice sonic artefact you get from the tuning up/down process.

I was curious about the time stretch though, From what I understand you can achieve some cool sounds when you time stretch it. My turntable (stanton str8-150) has a digi out that keeps the pitch the same, no matter how fast I play it. I usually sample that into my mpc, chop it, then send it to the 950. Was hoping to play around with the timestretch and see what would come out.

There's a free app called Akaizer which is an excellent and fast way of recreating the classic Akai timestretch. :wink:

Time stretching does preserve tempo (duration/length).

You stretch the time, then the tempo/duration/length, all time based measurements, change.

yeah, you dont want that... you want to pitch it down, not pitch shift it down... or stretch it back to the original length while keeping the 45rpm pitch...

haha my bad.. well we know the difference in rpm.. maybe we could apply that percentage to the TS.

Sounds like the right idea... ~136% should do it if the record player is exactly 45rpm no +/- adjustments
