8 output board too wide to fit MPC2000?

I bought an MPC 8 output board on ebay to put into my MPC 2000, but after opening it up it doesnt seem to fit. There are two cables that run from the main board up to the board that the display is attached to, and these seem to get in the way of the 8 output board when you try to fit it.

If you look at the picture, you can see how the metal board extends an inch or two to the side of the 8 output board. This extra width means the aforementioned cables are unable to fit around the side of the board. However if i look at other 8 output boards on ebay, they seem to be attached to a narrower plate, for example:



If I had a metal plate this narrow i'm sure it'd fit fine. So what is my expansion fitted to? Can I buy a narrower plate? Any help at all would be appreciated, quite confused here.

You need to remove the actual 8 out circuit board from the metal plate. The reason is that your 8 out board has come out of a compatible rack sampler like the S2000, not an MPC2000/XL. So remove the metal fixing plate or try to modify it as some people have done. I did it by discarding the metal plate altogether and securing the PCB using nuts on the output jacks. You may find that you also need a longer flat ribbon cable than the one that came with the board you purchased.
