can anyone tell me how much is the latency it gets uses mpc ren with ren soundcard?? i am getting 1,5ms at 64 samples and down it rights 413.

don't know what this mean anyway but it seems coming from a standalone mpc that even this, which is the lowest i can achieve, is too much.anyway i can set it lower??

i feel the latency especially when i use the note repeat function or when i turn the sample pitch lower.i checked the samples to see if there is empty space at the start but seems ok.

any ideas anyone?

i am running a pc 3,4gh, 3 giga ram, i5, 32 bit.

Wouldn't note repeat, by the way it works, feel like that anyway, since it isn't triggering a note until the next timing correct division in the beat is reached, it doesn't trigger the sound as soon as you hit the pad?

Try setting your sequence tempo (BPM) right down to 30 bpm, and the timing correct (T CORRECT) to 4, and try to play some pads using note repeat, that will demonstrate that with note repeat, you can't actually play sounds directly with the pads like you normally can, the sounds only play if the pads are played/held when the next timing correct division, at the set bpm and timing correct division, is reached.

At faster tempos, and higher timing correct divisions, you might be misinterpreting this normal note repeat behavior as latency.

thanks for reply.

seems you are right.

question though: why is it different than previous mpcs??
is everybody else ok with how note repeat works???

can i refer this as a bug so akai can fix this?

can this be fixed in a future update??

It isn't.

cpm31 wrote:is everybody else ok with how note repeat works???

It works the way it is suppose to.

cpm31 wrote:can i refer this as a bug so akai can fix this?

You can do whatever you like, but they, like me, might be wondering how to fix it, as it isn't broke.

cpm31 wrote:can this be fixed in a future update??

It probably can, if a fix is even possible for something that seems to be working the way it should.

Maybe I need an explanation of how it is supposed to work, if different to how it is working now?

Maybe i misunderstood something or didn't make my self clear.sorry for my bad english anyway.

i am 100% sure the note repeat function DOESN'T work as it does on mpc 2500 or the mpc 4000 as i used to have them both and 2500 have been sold to one of my best friends so i can play with it anytime i want.

i dare anyone to put a mpc 4000 or 2500 next to ren and hit any pad in note repeat function.it just not respond the same way.

another friend of mine told me that note repeat worked like rens in mpc 5000 after the second update, can't confirm this though.

in 2500 and 4000 when you hit the pad in note repeat mode it plays instantly (as far as i can hear though) in ren it defenatly doesn't.it's like missing the note when you hit the pad and waiting for the next note to drop or something.

it's not a deal breaker, i literally i'm in love with my ren but don't get how at least users of previous mpcs don't get the difference.

if this can't be fix i can leave with it with no second thought, stability should be the main priority and maybe multicore support, but if it can why not.

I have an MPC 2500 and Ren sitting side by side as I type this. I don't see any differences in this regard. I am not saying there isn't an issue...just that I am not seeing it.

Perhaps create a video and post it to detail the issue you are having.

then maybe it's a latency issue.jah thank you for clearing this up.can i ask you what are your latency settings in mpc ren??

I tested it today on an MPC2000XL, just to make sure before I replied, and that is how it works on it as well, never plays until the next timing correct division is reached, until the next note is dropped as you say.

If your tempo and timing correct value are set higher, maybe you might not notice.

I wound the tempo right down, and the timing correct to 1/8 note, the largest division available on the MPC2000XL, and it operates the same way.

Only difference might be that, according to the manual, on the MPC2000XL note repeat only operates in record and play, while in MPC Software it operates when stopped as well, and in MPC Software the largest timing correct/note repeat division is 1/4 note.

I thought that was just the way it works, same as timing correct, plays notes on the beat, or on the timing correct division, but only when pad is hit/held when that timing correct division is reached.

Maybe someone else can confirm how it operates on an MPC2500 or MPC4000?

I keep my settings at 256 samples (5.8 ms).

Now...if I hold down Note Repeat (set to 1/16) and quickly tap the Ren's pads, it will no always trigger the sample. If I strike and hold down the pad, the sample will always trigger immediately.

Doing this on the MPC 2500, I get the same results.

I really think you need to test it again on your friends 2500, set the tempo as slow as you can, and the timing correct division to the largest you can (1/4 or 1/8 for example), and make sure, don't just go by memory,

That sounds to me like it is working correctly, but you are possibly mistaken about how it actually works in the 2500 and 4000.

thank you for getting in the trouble of testing it.i am confused though.thought it was the way how this works now.cause i can hear no latency when i just hit a pad but in note repeat doesn't react the same, so it's not natural to be a latency issue.my friend with the 2500 confirmed me that ren and his mpc in note repeat mode don't react the same, he said that must be latency....on the other hand you confirm that this is how previous mpcs used to work and jah confirms this too.

make a video???for sure, why not but how can i show you the difference of ms timing??not sure the video will even get the sound at the right time.maybe i am wasting your time though.disappointing with myself for not figuring this out.

i have the feeling that pads on ren are harder than they used to be in 4000 or maybe 2500.can this be the reason??

only logical explanation i can get is that when note repeat i hit the pad sample doesn't trigger the first note but starts from the second, can this be shown in a video?? jah if you think yes can you give me instructions to make a proper one??? thank you in advance.

I think the key is to actually test it yourself on the MPC2500, with the tempo slowed right down, and with the largest timing correct division (and set it the same on both the MPC2500 and MPC Software to compare them).

Then you will make sure you know how it is operating on both, don't go by what you remember from when you used to own one, and by what your friends are saying.

It seems to me that it is operating the way it is supposed to for me, here, and that your description of it sounds like it is also operating the way it is supposed to for you, you just didn't realise previously exactly how it was operating.

But I could well be wrong, and yours does have issues, but it seems to me that it is more a misunderstanding of how the function is supposed to work.

maybe you are right i will check it in a couple of days when i go to my friends house.i don't have a real problem, i just have to hit the pad a little quicker-earlier than i used to.i love my ren so happy i bought it.thank you very much for spending time to solve my problem.

It could be, if leaving your fingers on the 2500 pads, after the initial hit, were sensed by the 2500 as having the pad held down, versus more force required to be sensed as a held pad on the Renaissance, meaning maybe the fingers left on the pad after the initial hit were not sensed on the Renaissance, it could appear to be a difference in the way note repeat works.

But anyway, having it not trigger a sound sometimes on the first 'hit', if that hit doesn't occur exactly on a timing correct division, and then triggering on a second hit, if that hit does occur exactly on a timing correct division, sounds like the correct operation of the note repeat function...to me anyway, you have it in front of you, so maybe there are issues beyond normal note repeat functionality.
