How is the MPC Renaissance and Windows 7 & 8? Advice & help

I'm new here and was recommended to join as I'm interested in acquiring an MPC Renaissance for both studio and live performance.

I primarily make house & techno and have been an Akai sampler user for approximately 20 years now (s1000/cd3000xl/s6000) but gave them up around 5 years ago to mainly concentrate on software samplers. Luckily I haven't sold them and hope to get back into some hardware sampling on some forthcoming projects.

With that in mind I've been watching the Renaissance develop (as well as Maschine) and feel it would be the perfect machine to sit at the heart of my studio and take care of sampling and sequencing duties plus control some hardware midi equipment and provide soundcard/midi duties.

My main concern is how does the Ren work on Windows 7 & 8?

I have win7 on the studio desktop and win8 on my laptop and both will get extensive use with the Ren. Also keep in the mind the laptop is for live use so I need it to be fairly rock solid throughout.

In terms of specs:

Acer Aspire V3 771 Laptop
6GB DDR3 ram
500gb hard drive 7200 rpm
i5 dual core 2.5ghz with turbo boost up to 3.1ghz
17"
Intel hd Graphics 4000 (whatever that means)
Windows 8

Desktop is

i7 3.4ghz quad core
Windows 7 Ultimate
Cubase 5
16gb ram
2tb hard drive
120gb SSD drive
19" monitor

Will the specs be ok to run the Ren comfortably, laptop in particular, and can the Ren handle both Wins 7 & 8?

Also, how is 1.4 of the software holding up now? I've heard so many horror stories in the past year or so with the Ren but I sense 1.4 has changed things and given users a 'working' product now that has huge, huge potential.

I'm not playing PC vs Mac anymore today with whatever Mac fanboy(s) who might show up. (I have both PC and Mac, so I deal in facts)

But just the same, the answer is resounding yes on both your computers Nubian Mindz. Those boxes will run any software on Earth marvelously.

Anyways, I get the crux of what you're saying. Both machines & OS are quite capable of running the Ren.

Anyways, I get the crux of what you're saying. Both machines & OS are quite capable of running the Ren.

It did seem like the PM didn't send. I pasted it to a text file though. I'll try again, but if it doesn't work again, basically I went down the list of your specs on both machines and in every case pointed out how you have great capabilities in every listed area.

One of the major things I had mentioned was the Ren being single core operation, but you can still make the best of that with 2 CPUs that hit 3gHz plus. 2 HDs on the desktop is a big plus, put the library and other sounds on the 2nd HD for max performance.

7200RPM HD on the laptop is great, and you've got fast RAM, I'm guessing the desktop is DDR3 too.

I don't use the Ren but trying the demo everything was equal on Windows 7 and OS X on a dual booting 8 core I use.

The Ren was ordered Friday morning so should be hooked up in the studio sometime this week.

Like I said those are both really well specified PC's, I doubt you'll have any issue, maybe the occasional bug, but software specific to the Ren/Studio and would happen on either OS.

That was the consensus of all but one agenda driven member here, everyone either a PC Ren User, someone who used both, or in my case someone who tried the demo on both OS's, and has literally 100+ apps that run the same on either OS on the same hardware.

'Everyone' have not used the Ren/Studio on both a PC and Mac. I have. The MPC software should work pretty good on a Win computer. But I have had a better experience using a Mac. Akai's do all their demo's on a Mac. You can debate, get upset, rant, whatever, but I am just stating facts.

Load up the MPC Software on a PC and Mac and use them extensively. Then report your findings as I have multiple times.

The OP does not have a Mac and isn't asking about Macs, he wants to know if it runs well on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Regardless OP has now ordered a Ren, so please do report back with your findings.
