Will the method above not work?

Seems like it does pretty much the same thing, but uses 2 pads instead of 1.

If not, maybe use the method above to line them up how you want them, them resample onto a single pad?

it's alot of adjustments to make when the snare doesn't sound good on the 2nd sample. especially when you have plugins tied to it. you'd have to go back and forth from pad 2 to pad 1.. not to forget all the buttons to press to get into the window of the plugin.

having it on a single pad would be ideal. afterall it is LAYERING. Nobody wants to trigger a midi signal to trigger another midi signal on another pad when it can all be done on a single pad.

Just like how there is a separate window for the EFFECTS for each sample (layered or not), it would be ideal to have a separate window for the NUDGE for each sample (layered).

Delay wouldn't work. and it's not the right way to do it.

Correct me if im wrong, but we can't hook up plugins to individual samples that are in the LAYERING correct? The Layering and EFFECTS that we have are strictly for 1 single pad, and not the individual samples that are used for layering in that pad?

for example, on 1 single pad i have:
SNARE
CLAP
CLAP
WHITE NOISE

is there a way to chain individual samples to its own effects pluging?
SNARE - EQ, DISTORTION
CLAP - EQ
CLAP- EQ, DISTORTION
WHITE NOISE - EQ

or will all the samples in that pad be affected by the plugins?

I don't understand what you are saying about having a separate window for the effects for each sample.

Where is this?

I see effects on pads, or on tracks/master/etc., but do not see a separate window for effects on each sample/layer, do you mean the sample edit page with the sample processing options?

Not sure why delay wouldn't work, or why it is not the right way to do it when the parameter does not exist in the software.

No, you do not have effects on each sample, only on each pad/track/return/master.

You would have to use simultaneous play, and have each sound on a separate pad, to achieve the separate effects plugins on each different sample.

there is a separate "window" on our MPC screen for the EFFECTS when you press "F6" on the PROG EDIT screen.

if there was an ability to nudge the 2nd sample, there should be a separate window or some modulation indicating how many of a seconds it was nudged.

I was just giving an example..

Now you have 2 samples in PAD 1 (aka, layered).

When you now perform, you don't quite like the sound equalization of the 2nd sample in PAD 1.

How would this be done?

Load the 2nd sample into a sample editing program, apply EQ, save, replace that sample with the effected one in MPC Software.

or

Load the 2nd sample onto a pad by itself, apply effects plugins, resample to a new sample, replace original sample with resampled/effected sample in MPC Software.

or

Use simultaneous play, load the 2nd sample onto a separate pad, apply effects to the 2nd sample on the separate pad.

you know how it says on our EFFECTS screen:
Insert 1:
Insert 2:
Insert 3:
Insert 4:

I can't add a delay so that it works just for the 2nd snare..
I would still have to use a 2nd pad.
And using the delay modulation would take forever when it comes to close monitoring.. It would be much easier if you just press the nudge window, turn knob and it nudges it how ever many milliseconds you'd want.

Layering needs to have a nudge on the samples that you layer. Its a necessity. It has to be done on the fly under 1 pad without having to mess with effects.

try doing that 20 times... because it might take 20 adjustments for that snare to hit right the way you want. With that method, every adjustment you want to make, you would have to pull up the sample again, adjust it, save it, assign it... each time you want to make an adjustment.

That window on the MPC screen is not showing effects for each sample.

That is simply showing the 4 effects inserts for that particular program and pad, the same 4 pad insert points that are shown in the software program edit window in the Pad Insert Effects section, they are the 4 effects plugin slots for the selected pad, not for each sample

Yes, as above, those 4 effects are inserts for the selected PAD, not for an individual SAMPLE!

Yes, you would have to use a 2nd pad to have a separate effect on the 2nd snare, that is what I have been saying all along.

The other option, as recommended by Danny, is to leave blank space at the beginning of each (or at least the 2nd) sample, then modify the sample start point of the 2nd sample to line it up where you want it against the 1st sample.

This would allow you to have them on the same pad, as layers.

This would not allow you to have separate effects plugins on each sample/layer.

Yes, but you have to work within the limitations that you have, until they possibly add the specific parameter you need.

Using simultaneous play, with the samples on separate pads, or with Dannys method of using one pad and leaving space at the start of the sample and modifying the sample start point, you do not have to adjust/save/assign any samples each time you want to make an adjustment, you simply modify the delay time or the sample start time, and the change is immediate and audible on pad playback.

Airyck wrote:There isn't a way to do this directly with the MPC software.

What I've come up with to do this is to record one MIDI note of the sample I want to delay and solo it out so it's the only sound that plays when I hit play.

I go into sample record mode, hit record and then a second later hit play. This gives me a recorded sample with a little bit of silence in front of it. I then put it on the layer I want it to play and adjust the sample start time until it has the amount of delay I want on the sample.

It would be cool if they had a sample delay built in but this is my work around for now.

You can do this while the sample is playing and adjust it until it sounds right....
adding silence to the beginning of the sample and adjusting the start time is the same thing as nudging or delaying the sample. With my method it can all be done right in the MPC software and works on multiple layers.
By DiskoDaveBBB Thu Jul 25, 2013 12:10 am
Or if you don't want to trigger the layers simultaneously, you can record the first snare say on track 2. Then record your 2nd snare on track 2 too, but adjust and shift the timing correct to later however far you want to nudge. As long as you don't hit enter it won't affect the whole track. Just whatever you record with that timing correct. That's probably the easiest way to do it

all we need is the abilitiy to Insert Silence on a sample. That way for the sample you want nudged you just add a tiny bit of silence to the beginning of the sample.

Another workaround is open your sample up in another DAW, add a bit of silence at the beginning of the sample u want nudged then bring it back into the mpc

What you're trying to do can be done easily if you really think its that important that u need one of your samples nudged just add silence at the beginning of the sample.

I dont think Akai is going to go back in and re-program the software just to do something so simple and small when all you needed to do was add silence at the beginning of the sample. When you chopped u shouldnt of chopped so close the transient.

hey ispectah i thought the same thing for a minute cause i thought i remember being able to do this in 2kxl. but after relooking at sample edit options in ren there is no insert silence anymore. airyck's way of resampling is the best way to achieve this

Yeah it's the quickest and simplest way I've figured out. I need to do a lot of sample delay stuff to make the big huge claps/snares that are in dance music so I do this all the time.

One thing that would make this a ton easier is if they would allow you to start a recording and then go back play live on the pads while it's recording a sample. This would save the time of having to put in a MIDI note, solo it out, then record the sample with silence in front.

I haven't tried trigger it from an external MIDI keyboard but it just might work...
