3KLE Memory vanishing

I've got a 3kLE and it seems sometimes when I boot up the machine it doesn't detect the 32mb of memory thats installed.
I purchased the memory from ebay that said it was for the 3k.
At the moment I had to put in the old 8mb back in place.
Does anyone know the cause of this?

Is there a EXM-3002 or EXM-3008 board installed in the machine? This is the board that is plugged into a black connector directly into the right of where you are installing the memory. You will have to remove this if you expand the memory to 32MB.

Yeah that was out at the time. I just put it back in because I became frustrated.
Sometimes the memory would show as 32mb after a few restarts.
Other times it would show up as no memory.

I'd make sure the ram was firmly seated in the connectors and that the contacts are clean. Failing that you may need to buy new RAM, preferably branded and with warranty.

not sure why exactly this is happening but if it continues i might have to contact to try get a refund or exchange

Well if the 32mb is recognised sometimes, chances are the problem is related to your MPC.

Since you have an LE, do you mind helping us out by posting some details in the MPC3000LE Roll-Call thread? It's probably a good few pages deep by now, well worth digging up if you're an LE owner...

what do you think might be the problem?

Other than what I suggested previously, I don't have the technical knowledge to speculate. So try the obvious things first.

I would speculate that there is an issue with the RAM module connection.

Either a problem with the socket itself, maybe the pins are not making good contact with the pads on the module, either physically damaged or dirty connectors, or maybe a dry solder joint connecting the socket to the PCB.

If replacement memory modules do the same thing, then I would be looking there next.

I bought the same RAM from the same seller for my MPC 3000.

It took two weeks to arrive and then it didn't work

The PCB's of both RAM sticks were too thin, so when you fitted them into the RAM slot holders they weren't being gripped in place properly and you could wiggle them about very easily.

I sent the RAM sticks back and got a full refund.

Now I need to get 32MB RAM from someone else.
