Broken CF-card holder - any way to upgrade OS OR install HD?

Ah, man, so the CF-card holder in my MPC 1000 has a broken pin, it's so bent I have no idea how to get it back in place. I just got a hard drive and the HD-kit (after having waited for the two for two months), have inserted that, only to find out that I need to mount the HD using the default Akai firmware - is this true, or can I somehow mount it using the currently installed OS, which is JJOS 1?

If that's not possible, do I really have to spend another $125 on the memory card slot from MPCstuff? Ah, damnit, this thing is getting more expensive than I thought. :p

I think you can on JJOS1, just remember to first format HD in MPC (running JJOS). It's somewhere in load screen as I remember.
