The MOTU Ultralite is designed to use it's FX on it's inputs rather than outputs. You can't directly place the DSP FX on the audio coming out of the interface because it was designed to be placed on the inputs. With the MOTU Ultralite think of it more like a Digital Mixing board with no physical faders. You have 10 inputs each of which can have great EQ, compression/limiting inserted on them. The whole Cuemix section can be controlled by a Mackie HUI capable device (such as the Mackie Control Universal, or Cuemix template and TouchOSC for the iPad for example).
Of course I didn't let this stop me. If you treat it like a digital mixer you can apply this EQ and FX to the outputs of the MPC software. You'll need to purchase some 1/4" patch cables to make it happen though. On the back of the MOTU physically patch all of the outputs to the inputs, so output 1 makes and audio loop back into input 1 with a physical patch cable (until you get all of your busses and cuemixes set up turn your montiors and headphones down so you don't get feedback and ruin your ears / speakers). You then just make sure that all of your CUE Mixes are turned down. Only have one of your busses (bus 1) in the cuemix software active. On that bus choose your main output (e.g. Main outs or SPDIF whatever you use for monitoring) and then send all of the inputs to the Main outs. Now you'll be able to apply EQ and Compression, Reverb etc to whatever is coming out of the MOTU outputs.
From this point you just choose a MOTU output from the Renaissance software and you can apply the EQ/Compression/Limiting/Reverb from the MOTU DSP to anything you choose in the Renaissance.
One thing though is that you are hearing the MIX with the FX but just like a digital mixer you'll have to record the Master output back into the computer again to get the FX printed on the sounds. I advise using this for more of a final mixdown system. One thing you could do is track all of the inputs onto separate tracks in a DAW like group channels then do a final mixdown in the software (Cubase / Pro Tools / Etc) You could also mess with buses and routing to just record the master output but that would be a little more finicky and require some creative routing like above.
MOTU interfaces are a great value for money because you get a high quality interface which doubles as a digital mixing board and can be expanded up to have up to 32 analog and 8 digital inputs and outputs. Added a Mackie control universal and you have a serious mixing desk with built in DSP FX that are modeled after some pretty famous equipment.
P.S. If you plan on doing this often I recommend patch it up to a Patch Bay 1/2 normalized so you can interrupt the connection in case you want to patch external equipment into the MOTU inputs.
