Is it possible to hook up my 2XL to an S900 and track out through its 8 outs? I'm trying to stay away from buying the 8 outs for my mpc. Its pretty expensive.

:hmmm:

you can buy the s900 and take the 8outs from it and mickey it for the mpc (if im not mistaken). Then you can ship me the s900 with no outs

Buy a dirt cheap Akai S2000 or S3000XL and take the 8 output board from there. CHEAP! If you're lucky you might get the EB16 FX board in the machine too...

Remove or modify the metal mounting plate in the S2000/S3000XL, and you're good to lump it into an MPC2000/XL. You also need a longer ribbon cable to connect the outputs into an MPC.

I have a bad experience with ribbons. any tips on how to cut it properly?

also, you said make the ribbon longer? how do you suppose I do that?

I didnt say make it longer, I said you'll also need a longer ribbon cable.

IIRC its like a generic IDE/floppy type cable, so get a longer one than you find in the S2000/S3000XL and cut it to length with a very sharp blade and a ruler (you only need the plastic connector on one end). There's a more in-depth explanation of the mod in the MPC2000 forums. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=96078. Plenty of us have done it.

Clint grabbing a rack works in the UK but in the US most of the 2000 and 3000 units have no options installed.

Seems that the units sold overseas were either bundled differently or the people buying them wanted them to be full featured.

The OP just needs to realize that the price to pay for the 8 out is $100 - 135 in the US and just use the streo outs until he has the money.

just save up & buy the actual 8-out expansion... modifying that compatible 8-out board to make it fit properly is beyond your abilities.
