Meta you own Turnado right, I was wondering what is it like?. I was going to replace the sp404 and get some funds and was thinking of investing in the app similar to how I'm using it at the moment with the sp as a sounds fx processor.

got the alesis io dock, got one cheaper than a new istudio so it was worth it don't think I need sysex midi probably regret it but damn its made my ipad into more of an instrutment

I read through this topic and got tons of info. I think I'm going to get the behringer istudio and pack up my desktop ( babies coming). Is there a good app for recording vocals? I see the beatmaker2 is going to be where I make my beats.(would it be good for vocals?) ( I got impc and tabletop already) I want to be able to lay down vocals on the beats.

I don't have csgrain but it does have great reviews. I would get it but no audiobus compatibility is a deal breaker. Hopefully when iOS 7 comes around the dev will actually update it to take advantage of interapp audio and or audiobus. What I'm really interested in from Boulanger Labs is the port of CSsound. Now that would be something!

I do have Chordion. It's built in synth is okay, has a lot of dreamy, relaxed qualities to it. I bought it mainly as a midi controller to cheat playing chords with just a push of a single button. It works well in that respect.

Yeah too bad no one did something easy and awesome like port the whole 2000XL OS over and slap a GUI on it...wait what...

For real though I'm still disappointed with iMPC (it's a 4 track adaptation of the 1000 2.24 OS or whatever the number with tons missing), even though I kind of like Tabletop. 3 years ago on my iPad 1 one of my first thoughts was this can run JJ or the XL OS so easily and there's 256MB RAM. It's so easy and obvious...it will never happen I'm sure.

But yeah you're right BM2 and Nano studio don't have a basic MPC style song mode. It's linear DAW style on those.

The CSGrain app Dom asked about is pretty cool. But I haven't made any stuff I've used in anything yet. The granular synthesis can get wild really quick and some of the timbres you can get are way out there.

You can load your own loops though. And I think if I was to actually use it wired in to a MPC/DAW setup and edited to make the CSGrain stuff fit pitch wise it might me easier.

But I've had fun just making bizarre noise and just playing with it since I've had it.
It's code from the expensive Kyma CSound system so there's some heavy power in the app. You can even use CSound's scripting language. But that stuff is far from my forte.

acronym sorry I missed your Turnado question. I think you totally could use it like an FX box. Same as CSGrain I've just loaded loops in it and had fun just exploring it that way. But I'll actually give it a try as an FX module for some outboard input and let you know if it's got all the features to substitute for the 404 FX.

I know I know, Akai will **** up the simplest of tasks. Ask an Akai exec to pour a glass of water, 10 minutes later water and broken glass will be everywhere. Never mind a complete and competent software port of one of their most successful machines. I'm in denial that iMPC exists as it does.

Thesys looks like it comes close to what I want, but it's sequencer is only 16 step.

I then checked out Yamaha's Mobile Music Sequencer, but again, weak sequencer on top of what looks like the designer had reocurring night terrors and decided to translate it over to the GUI.

Anyways, I bought Thor recently and it's awesome. This is the last week of my summer class and once that's over I can really delve into it.

Yeah Ocular I was floored they dropped Thor at such a nice price. I will pay top dollar if they choose to do ReDrum and Kong, I'd be in heaven.

Funny you say water+Akai. The other day I was talking to a member here outside of the forum on email and he linked to a ridiculous J.Sandeen "support" post he was involved in.

My only response was I was shocked Akai didn't close the (non) support/(non) answer with "would you like some Akai Kool Aid brewed from our fine Rhode Island toilet water..." (I have an odd mind )

I asked Retonyms on Facebook months prior to iMPC's release how MIDI would work.

The reply was "we have something special planned..." I was like "what...?...Only with Fly standalone and only Core iOS MIDI in Tabletop? Because that will suck"

Then... Crickets...months later, hey look no folders even, no mute groups and on and on. I still want to know did Retronyms force the limits (the whole app I mean), did Akai just send a JPEG of a XL and tell Retronyms do whatever?

It's just bizarre as Retronyms are good coders and you'd think the two firms wouldn't want to create such a crippled app. And they just released it for the iPhone. Universal version? No way, pay $3 more suckers.

At least an ipad 3 can handle 8 iMPC's easy. But it's crazy that the 16 pad sampler already in Tabletop can load a folder with say Recycle chops and I believe a MIDI file and iMPC can't have user folders. I can't be scrolling like that, it's ridiculous if you have as many samples as I do.

Meanwhile BM2 if they added Soundfont support for better keygroup instruments would be a 4k basically, although no song mode like an MPC as we're discussing.

Oh well more time to learn Audulus finally.

Really amazing to see Sugar bytes dropping portable versions of their $100+ VST's though. They do some great stuff.
