I didn't see this in the search but is anyone else having this issue?

I'm running the apollo and mpc renaissance together. I've put an API 560 across 14 of my 16 tracks and I get a message saying that the apollo is going to disable some plug ins because its maxing out. I check my meter and I'm running 97 percent of my power for 13 API Plugs. I turn off apollo and when I turn it back on it resets itself and shows at a much lower power percentage. However, then my MPC REn is frozen from the controller. I can change pages on the computer but it wont play a seq. from the computer or the screen. Any suggestions are welcomed.

I have a mac book pro 10.8.4
I'm running the MPC in 64 bit
UAD APOLLO with thunderbolt
Thanks

Which OS and firmware are you running on your Apollo? Which software version of the MPC Software are you using?

Which DAW are you using and how many API plugins can you use until you have a similar problem?

All this info is needed, at a minimum, to trouble shoot your problem.

You didn't say which Apollo you're using nor if you were also using other UAD-2 plug-ins.

Depending on which Apollo you have, maybe you're just running out of DSP processing power? Here are the specifications for the API 560 from the UAD-2 instance charts*:

  • 9.2% DSP usage for mono channels
  • 15.5% DSP usage for stereo channels
  • 20 mono instances on Apollo Duo
  • 12 stereo instances on Apollo Duo
  • 40 mono instances on Apollo Quad/16
  • 24 stereo instances on Apollo Quad/16

*removed the info not applicable to Apollo

I can definitely say for sure that you can run over 13 instances of this plug-in on both a Quad or 16 without any issues. However, I don't use a Ren. I'm just clarifying that unless you're using a Duo and stereo channels, it's not a DSP issue.

There you go right there. With the limited info provided, 14 stereo instances of the API plugin on a UAD Duo would run out of processing power.

I have a UAD Apollo Duo and have yet to use my demo of this plugin. I will use if if needed to help trouble shoot any issues and report it to the developers if required.

Hey Jah and Undertow

Thanks for the feedback

I have the Apollo Quad 7.1
Im running the latest firmware and os for the Apollo

The 1.4 version of MPC Ren in standalone mode.

I aslo have Logic X but not running it in this scenario

Ive tried running in 32 bit mode to see if there's a difference and its the same problem in 64 and 32 bit

thanks

The issue is likely somewhere else then.

I have no problems running over 14 instances of the API 560 plug-in in any of my DAWs (as RTAS, AU nor VST) including Logic Pro X and neither should you. Hopefully someone invested in the Renaissance will help, if it's a Renaissance issue. You may want to try Logic Pro X just to be sure it's only happening in the MPC software, if you haven't already.

Ok. I will try it out this weekend and report back my findings.

*This is my kind of thread....Ren users helping out other Ren users.

So to clarify.....you are using the API 560 (graphic EQ)?

Try running Activity Monitor located in Applications/Utility/. Select "My Processes" from the pull-down menu and sort the list by CPU (highest first) and run your session.

This will show you exactly whats apps/processes are taking up at least your computers CPU load. Might be helpful in trouble shooting.

Yeah the API 560

Thanks in advance

Any particular preset/settings you used within the API 560?

Also, can you send me the actual project file that produces your issue; it may be helpful for the developers to troubleshoot.

I did a test using Maschine and its default 808 Kit pattern. I added 6 of the API plugins to individual drums sounds. My Apollo Duo CPU maxed out and a message indicating one or more plugins were disabled appeared.

I am running OSX 10.7.5
2.3 Ghz Intel Core i5
16 GB Ram

Note - my Apollo's DSP meter registered at 11% as soon as I turn on my computer..and stays around 19% even when it appears no app is using it.

I performed the same test using the MPC Software V1.4. I was able to add 11 of the API plugin which I could hear was stressing the Apollo's CPU. When I added a 12th one, I got a message indicating one or more plugins were disabled.

Also note that UA only does vigorous testing on the major DAWs (Pro Tools, Nuendo, CUbase, Logic, and Live) although they will look into issues reported from using other DAWs in you put in a support ticket.

Hot - The sample rate used may impact the number of plugins you can use.

Hey Jah

Thanks for all the troubleshooting. I didn't have any particular preset up. just had them up and zeroed. On the Quad I'm only getting two plugins more than you. Thats interesting. I'm gonna leave a ticked for UA tomorrow and let them know. Maybe Daws like Maschine and Renn make the Apollo react differently thank DAWs like logic, live and so on.

Glad you were able to reproduce that so now I know how to move forward. Just a heads up didn't have the problem doing the same thing with the 1073.

Thanks again

I looked into that but it wasn't enough of a spike to make me think that was the issue.

thanks though
