I have not had a 4000 in a a while.

I found a local deal. $550
272MB RAm
spidif card
no lines in screen

I go to pick it up next thursday.

Over the years I have owned quite a few mpc4000.
this will be my sixth unit.

planed upgrades:
ditching the hard drive in favor of an atapi multicard reader
additional 256 MB ram
dvd combo drive
ditching the fan in favor of a heat sink, or maybe quiet fan

maybe i will send it to forat for chrome plating?

I guess I will use a scsi PCD-47b

I want to ditch the cd and hard drive completely.

ATAPI should be easier to find than the 47b.
Go to the 2k section and look at the brands recommended, you will even find a link to purchase locations.

It is when you are paying 3x as much for a lesser device.

Do yourself a favor get a hot swappable ATAPI and be done with it.
Still not sure why you would even consider the SCSI for a device that doesn't have to use SCSI?

As far as ATAPIs being hard to find, you must either be looking in the wrong place or for the wrong unit.
You can order the CompuApps directly from them and it's one of the units people have had really good success with.

And by the way no one said you were broke, just making a bad choice.
