Hey folks, just replaced my pad sensor sheet on the mpc 3000, bought from mpc-stuff.com, the pads are working but they're not as responsive as compared to my mpc 2500, any idea why?
I replaced them because I'd always have to put them on full level and i'd have to bash it a bit hard, but i find its a little difficult getting a good tight and even response when hitting it a bit softer. noticeable especially working with hi-hats.
Also, I sometimes get a quick 'double-hit' on the pads which screws up my sequence. That being said, I never get this with my 2500.

A few of us have replaced the pads only to find they don't respond well.
Not sure why.
If your using an MPC60 you could try the sensitivity mod. You'll find it with the forum search function.

The older MPs didn't have selectable sensitivity so you just learned to play them.
The newer units have the variable sensitivity, which I don't really care for.
Never could really get any to adjust to my desired feel.
JJ changed the adjustments and make it better on the 1k/2500 but I still prefer the sensitivity of the older models.

As long as all you're pads are responding the same way it's probably correct.
Unless you are saying they are less responsive than the sensor sheet you replaced?

I was going to change the sensor sheet on my 3000 as well, some pads double trigger sometimes. Even so i enjoy them a lot more than on the 2500. I can get the velocity variation i want out of them.

I'll probably go for the replacement and hope for yet a better responsiveness in any case.

This is exactly what happens to me and I don't like it. Even after changing to a new pad sensor I still get the same result.
As for sensitivity adjustment, I'd expect my softer hits to react, in my case they dont so I'm inclined to hit them a bit harder and it would play and almost full level

Thats is what always happened to me on the 2500. About your 3000 its interesting how you still get double hits after changing the sensor sheet. Im sure some of the tech heads here can post a few solutions/suggestions. I'm interested myself

Check the thread link above

Double hits are often a technique issue. The pad setup on older gear like the MPC 60 and 3000 is not as forgiving as on newer MPCs. If you are coming from a newer MPC you will encounter this and will have to adjust for it.

You can try different pads or thicker pads with or without those cork inserts. But you will have to figure out what works best for you. What works well for someone may not work for you. Everyone's experience is different.

Also in the link above read deepah84's post regarding velocity adjustment. Did you read it already? Read it again and then try it out.

I've read deepahs post at least 8 times but I still don't understand it, it has no mention of where to adjust these setting. Confused.
Although I did try entering step edit and it shows that the velocity picks up at 127 (full volume) even when I'm ever slightly tapping the pads. What also annoys the sh*t out of me is that sometimes it randomly wont pick up any of the hits at all.

Doubling up, Missing hits, this is getting ridiculous.

What a shame. I purchased the 3000 out of curiosity because of the amount of rave it gets for its build and quality, also to replace the 2500 while it was broken, now that I've managed to fix it, I've compared both samplers from the inside out and i'm slowly becoming less enthusiastic about the build of the 3k.

the 3000 is clearly an amazing machine to work with, at least IMO. i really hope you get to fix the pad issue so that you can start to enjoy working on this classic MP.

what that guy says in the link above is that he feels the velocity response was not quite liniar on his machine, its a velocity curve. so as you want to get higher velocity levels you have to hit harder and harder to the point where you need to smash the pads for a 127. its not the case on your machine but i know what he means because it happened to me with a 60 the only way to get 127 was full level or to hit the pads really hard, quite funny lol

so on the main screen he suggest to reduce the effect the velocity has on volume. the velocity percentage defaults to 100% on the main screen.

it is on the main screen.its where it says "velocity 100%" try to lower that and experiment with lower values than 100%. it may help, but first try to understand what that percentage means

deepah84 wrote:Not on the main screen, this one is for recorded notes and has no effect on the pads.

To edit these program parameters, press the PROGRAM/SOUNDS key, then select option 2 and adjust the volume field!

This is clearly not going to solve the problem at all, like someone else said this is the total opposite of my problem.
