I pretty much understand how to get the zones to work. I guess what my real question is, why is it that I can't really hear much of a difference? Im coming from the 2000xl and my favorite thing to do on the XL was to simultaneously trigger other pads. I would usually do this w/ kick drums, by having a higher end kick drum and have a different kick drum (or the same) and lower the frequency and boost resonance. I'm having a really hard time imitating the same effect on the 4K. I'm just trying to wrap my head around, any tips to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

On 2kxl you had SIMULT, you can layer original and up to 2 more pads.

On 4k you have ZONE, you can layer original pad and up to 3 more pads.

Same thing, it's layering.

So if you want SIMULT shit on 4k you just dial in another sample in ZONE 2, 3 or 4 under that original pad. Pg 90. You can edit all ZONES at once or separately.
On 2kxl you can't edit params on all SIMULT pads at once.

ZONE has many more functions, but it's main purpose is to act as a bigger and better SIMULT.

I too, have a 2kxl and a 4k. I understand the ZONE thing completely. You can use qlinks on ZONES to, it's ridiculous the things ZONES can accomplish in the modulation matrix.

You guys are mad help, Thank you!!

A question about this though,

I noticed that you can go between the zones and edit individually this is where I'm kinda stuck the reason being is when I go to edit 1 and I'm in zone 2 I edit the filter but it sounds like its effecting also the main kick on the pad? (so its not filtering out the second zone its filtering out everything) Why is that? I know if I leave the "Edit" function to "ALL" it should effect all, but when I leave it to "One" it still effects all? Or lets say I edit my kick drum on pad 2, I filter it out get it sounding as 808 as I can and I go to the zones in pad 1 to layer my edited kick drum and it doesn't transfer over? Any ideas? Thanks guys appreciate it!!

Being able to select the different Zones in Edit 1 is just a total red herring as far as I can tell. Any adjustments affect the whole pad, and you definitely don't get a different filter per Zone. It's like an unfinished part of the OS.

What you do get is the Filter control in the Zone screen, which enables you to blend in as much or as little of the filter for each Zone as you want. It'll solve your problem anyway.

You're not destructively editing the sample when you manipulate it through a program. If you want to move the edited sample to another pad so it retains the sound, you need to resample it and save it as a new sample. Then assign it again.
