Anyone?

I'll probably get reamed for asking this probably obvious question, but I haven't found an answer. In 1.4 with the studio, I want to be able to start a project without using the controller. I chopped up a drum loop, put the samples on a pad bank, and tried clicking each pad for the new sounds. I don't get any sound output even though I see wav file and I see the volume go up when I hit the pads. Does this mean I have to start a new project using the controller? Then maybe I can work on a project that's already in session without the controller?

The controller must be connected to your computer.

You should have received a error message that the software will produce silence until the controller is attached.

I did. But I thought in 1.4 you could now work without the controller. I guess I misinterpreted that feature.

Yep, it's a 10.5 pound dongle, the world record holder I would say.

I think it's one of the biggest miscues they've made. NI Service Center model, iLok, e-Licenser (soft or hardware version), Codemeter, coded software "watermark"...

There are so many viable alternatives it's ridiculous.

This isn't a 1.4 feature but the developers are aware that this is a function that some users want. This topic has been discussed/debated in the forums at great lengths. There hasn't been any plublic indication from Numark/Akai that this will be changed.
