iMPC or MPC-500

For portable pure MPC power which one would you choose?

500 or just get a better iOS app. Beatmaker 2 or Nanostudio are your best bets.

iMPC has some alright aspects, Tabletop that will host it is a good app (but pricey to buy all the modules).

But the 2 apps I mentioned are on a different than iMPC and better value at $20USD than iMPC at $7USD.

But iOS in general is up to the task of replacing a 500 for sure with the right apps. You might want to get a Camera Kit and a cheap MIDI pad controller though. Otherwise you have no velocity sensitivity on your virtual iOS pads in apps.

Yep,Beatmaker 2 is amazing. If you have a ipad and you want something very close to the MPC 500 then Beatmaker2 is the way to go.

man, i say get the 500.. beatmaker2 is like a portable mpc1000jjos, but i would get the 500. i love the 500, it will be around longer then ur ios device and teach you how to chop by ear plus you get a break from a screen with alot going on cause the 500 dont have that...i got my 500 in 08, i still have it and rock it daily and love it! i got an ipod touch in 2011 got hella apps for it, got the irig midi hook ups and all, by 2013 my ipod does not even work anymore, will not turn on or nothing, ****!! my 500 works just fine, like always., im not getting another ios device, i have a mpc1000jjos, maschine, reason7, mpc2000xl, why the **** do i need BM2? my 1000 is just like it.. i prefer my 500 over my other mpcs, i prefer the simpleness of the 500, i prefer chopping by ear and number, and i can always hot swap cf cards if i wanna chop to perfection with my 1000... the choice is yours man, but ur gonna have hella cats saying go the BM2 route mainly cause you have a wave view while chopping, imo its just plain laziness, if you wanna take the easy way out and by a shitty made expensive device thats only designed to last a year or 2 to run a 20dollar app, that is a good app, then do it,. but if u wanna buy a second hand 500 for around 150.-200.dollars thats built with screws so it can be taken apart and at least fixed if something goes wrong then there you go,....oh yea, and Impc? **** that shit, dont waste ur time..

I picked up the OP-1 this week and the sampler(s) in it are amazing. Akai should reevaluate the situation and make a successor to the 500.

Its all in the specs. 500 beats them all in RAM, polyphony, sample time, no floppies or Zips, and features. Technology is suppose to make big machines smaller and more powerful. But these days technology makes. . . controllers

I would love me an OP1. I can imagine an MPC500 as a sampler and sequencer, then hook it up to your PC to access an MPC software with advanced edit features and a DAW. Sample right off the USB. Access VSTs and resample it into the 500 for later when disconnected from the PC. Or simply use it as a controller. Akai could've changed the game but instead they followed it.
