the amount of bullshit on the interwebs never fails to amaze.

There was only ever one "model" of MPC4000. The only difference between white ones and blue ones is the colour of the paint!

The design is modular, meaning you can fit the following:
- a 5" IDE bay, intended for a CD-RW drive
- a 3" IDE bay, intended for an internal hard drive
- a FX plugin board
- a ADAT I/O plugin board
- an 8 Analogue Out plugin board
- an SPDIF I/O plugin board
- slot slots each accepting 256MB of RAM

MPC4000s were sold by different Akai distributors in different territories with all sort of permutations of the above modules (and also different stuff pre-loaded on the hard drive). Some distributors mistakenly labelled their particular permutation a "Plus"; others called them "A", "B", "C" or "D" options....

The case fan does seem to have been swapped to a quieter OEM part at some point, that's about the only thing I'll concede (having replaced my white MPC4000's fan for a quieter one, and nearly electrocuting myself to death in the process...)
