CF Reader stopped working. Bad CF Card?

Hi,

so ,my compact flash SCSI card reader stop working. The MPC3K doesn't recognize it and the error lights are flashing. It's a "Spyrus" I bought a while back from SCSIforsamplers.

So from your experience, could this simply be a corrupted CF card?

I don't think the Spyrus drives supply termination power so your SCSI fuse my be blown.

Check the SCSI fuse (F901) inside the MPC .

I remember using one of these Spyrus drives with an MPC2000 and had a similar issue. And it is true the Spyrus does not provide termination. And also, if the MPC has a blown active term fuse (I believe active term fuse is different from scsi port fuse), then peripherals with non-existent termination will not work. But, if I remember correctly, if the Spyrus and the MPC did not provide termination to the scsi bus, the turnaround solution I used, was to daisy-chain a scsi zip drive to the MPC and the Spyrus. The scsi zip drive does provide termination and did so to the bus and everything connected to the bus. Everything worked and the Spyrus was recognized.

The thing I do not remember exactly was the dip switch settings for the Configuration Settings (located between the scsi ports). The first dip switch was for parity and the second switch was for termination. I believe the parity was set in the UP position and the termination was set in the down position. Or viceversa.

But, what you can do is daisy-chain a scsi zip drive (set scsi id 5 and term ON), Spyrus drive, and the MPC. setup as follows: zip drive == Spyrus drive == MPC.

Set parity in UP position. Set termination to DOWN position. Power ON ON Spyrus/scsi zip drive, and then the MPC. Verify if Spyrus works. If this does not work, then try the NEXT Spyrus setting.

Set parity to DOWN position. Set termination to UP position. Power ON Spyrus/scsi zip drive, and then the MPC. Verify if Spyrus is working.

I believe parity set to UP and termination set to DOWN will work.

Give it a try and let us know. (the turnaround solution worked for me when I had a Spyrus with my MPC2000

Thanks for the Zip-drive idea, but I don't have one around. I'll check the fuse later today and replace it if needed. I will update!

I've measured voltage on pin 25 and the fuse isn't blown.

Tried to put a different CF card in the reader, and it passed the mpc's scsi check... so I put the old card back in, and now it seems to work. That was the first thing I did to check this of course. but it didn't work two days ago for some reason.

Anyway it seems as though everything is back to normal.

So many false alarms over the years with th 3K
