MPC 2500 screen just went dim

So all of a sudden my MPC screen went real dim, not completely blank I can still see what's going on but it's really transparent.

However, when I start the machine the first info box (MPC 2500, 128mb RAM) is just normal but after that it goes dim again.

Kinda getting tired to this buggy piece of shit.

Its not a screen contrast setting thing is it. I forget what you have to do to change screen contrast now - it all seems to change with different O.S.s. But there'll be something somewhere that'll tell you.

If it's all gone Tango Uniform then its not too bad to replace & replacements seem easy to come by. I'm onto my third 2500 screen now, the first was replaced under warranty and the second I managed to do myself. My MPC screen works fine now.

Can't find anything through the MODE + settings, does anybody know how to adjust screen contrast on the free version of JJ?

Hope it's just a contrast issue. Dead back light would be the only other thing I think.

If you did not buy it from a dealer new this year... given when they were discontinued, I would expect problems eventually. The Free JJOS would be a good starting point.

The thing is, sometimes my MPC bugs out and changes the setting by itself...

Thinking about getting a good old and trusted Roger Linn unit.

Maybe we can work out a deal on my 60 MK1 3.10 w/scsi as my 2500 LE w/xlcd and os128xl gets all the action around here. I cant remeber the last time I actually made a song using the 60.

Your issues sound like they could be driven by user error. Based in part on the fact fhat you didnt know how to adjust the contrast. I could be wrong and your unit could be broken.

yeah, this is just user error... set the contrast as desired by holding down STOP and turning the data wheel... to have the contrast [and other] settings save for every time you turn your MPC on, then hold down the MAIN button while powering off [only necessary to do once for settings to save].

Posting to an old thread but... If the bugs are caused by an user error how can I fix them?

Sometimes the MPC just freezes and I have to reboot, sometimes it has changed some settings all by itself, sometimes on the 'program' section the data wheel won't adjust lvl, tune or samples but instead scrolls only up and down.
I'm thinking of selling the 2500 and replacing it with something older so I'm searching for a solution.

I used to have this happen and would hit the +/- buttons under the scrollwheel a couple times to fix it.

i would def try re installing a new version of the free jjos, or even the same one that you have before selling it.

i think your going to find that a lot of the features you like on the newer mpc wont be on the older ones. i could never go to an old mpc now that i have been spoiled by jjos xl and 2xl for the 1k and 2500.

mute groups anyone? older mpc's only can mute up to 3 other pads or something like that. might vary a bit from model to model.
another great thing about newer mpc's is there is no wait time for chopping samples (2000xl takes like 30 seconds for each chop you make, and when you would originally go to chop or trim mode, it would take like 30 seconds to load up the sample too! then if you werent on the right one in the first place, wait some more. that shit drove me up the wall!)
