Look at it again, it's scrolling spelled out AKAI. Maybe it was just for the show and not for you.

Might be some type of shift+ type command. Novation Launchpads do a fireworks type thing and a spastic cycling on a special combo of the buttons. On that one though it will bust it out the second you power down your computer and you have to yank the USB to make it stop.

turn it on with the usb cord unplugged.

This happens when you have your Ren usb cord disconnected from your computer and only the power cord connected to the Ren.
