So I have the power cable. The floppy does not show up. On the mpc all I see is disk read error. What is wrong? Do I even have the right ribbon?

Post some pictures of the inside of your MPC showing how you have the cables connected to the motherboard and how they are connected to the floppy drive.

I think the MPC is designed to use a cable without the twist, so will probably not work with a cable that has the twist, as the supplier of the drive told you.
If you do not have one, or easy access to one, you could take the back of the floppy connector off, where the twist is, remove just the twisted part of the cable, press it back on without the twist, and put the connector back together.
Or, take the connector off the cable altogether, press it back on before the twist, probably more to the correct length for what is needed, cut the part of the cable with the twist off (making sure you use a sharp blade, so it is a clean cut, and so the wires in the cable to not touch each other where the cut is).
Are you sure that the red power wire is going to pin 1 on the floppy drive?
