Just a minor aside but owners should care about the sales. Sales = Longevity/Long product life cycles, especially important if said product is software based.

Sega Dreamcast while underpowered was still one of the best systems ever, but it basically lasted 2 years.

These considerations are obviously separate from anyone's current satisfaction and usage, just common sense that sales equal years of support.

To the main topic, if I understand this correctly, the save style being discussed is the default behavior?

If so it's easy to just offer multiple ways to save. Standard referencing to the original locations with saves in kb to small MB range. A collect all and save method that could result in these much larger saves, but offer piece of mind you have duplicated samples in the event of destructive editing and things, and perhaps a "container" style save that allows a user to only save what they want in the container save on a tick box menu. The last method being very easy to share or travel with.

I've been thru re-creating drums for older beats in FL Studio because it does not save wav-files to the project folder, so I can appriciate the way Ren saves projects. Still it would be nice to be able to delete unused files/sounds from the project once you feel like the beat is completely finished.

I also edit my drums a lot with SAMPLE EDIT, so if Ren wouldn't save the way it saves, editing would affect all the projects that I've used that sound in.

MPCs have been around for 25 plus years. Forums have been predicting doom and gloom...the end of MPCs for the past decade as rival products have came....and quickly went (hello...see MV-8800). NI? They may very well be happy with their bottom line as they have ignored their user base in their own forum where the feature requests look like an MPC spec to include the MPC Software being discussed here.

Unsubstantiated MPC sales claims aside, the shelf life of an MPC has been approx 3 years then a new model is released. Akai has never been known to improve MPC operating systems beyond a few minor tweaks. With that said, the Ren/Studio Software have received better support than any MPC. That should speak volumes. Naysayers have been running out of things to speak negative of. But you see them quickly pounce on a thread such as this.

To wrap this up...MPC longevity is a non-issue. The next MPC Software release will further cement it as the premier sampling drum machine workstation. Present any MPC Ren/Studioissues you have promptly and make your feature requests as Akai has been and currently listening.

Now let me get back to playing with the Ren (plus go through some developmental tests) and continue to provide feedback to Akai from Ren/Studio users worldwide.

Peace.

Says the guy with the history of "4k is THE BEST"...later "4k is nothing...a failure", "2500 Aww yeah...."...."No wait it's all about the 5k...."...."Oh 5k plug pulled..."..."So what...?...."..."Ren...yeah I want a computer based MPC....BEST EVER...!..."

You're happy with the current model, cool. You'd use it still if they pulled the plug tomorrow, cool. We all use discontinued gear well after it's product cycle has ended.

Naysayers to you aside from the obvious troll posts, a wholly different proposition from normal criticisms and valid concerns, is really anyone that doesn't dick ride Akai two thumbs up to the sky.

At times I figure you might need a Dramamine I.V. on wheels for the endless spin you run in here. Obviously everything I wrote up top is well documented in the archives here.

Some people posted they are surprised the save options aren't more varied like most software and that the more it sells the longer the product cycle and more $ will available for further development...100% normal observations.

So maybe consider lightening up on the chip on your shoulder flow, and acting like these products and the manufacturer are you showing out for a family member.

Peace.

Only person that needs to lighten up is you. I agreed with at least two Ren users in this thread...and once again you take things personally.

Not only have we noted several reasons and benefits of it saving the way it does...it was suggested those wanting a different/additional implementation to make a feature request. To get bent out of shape and start with the immature responses is pathetic.

akai's kits avergae about 5 mb, mine average about 40mb or more even, My projects have at least 3 or 4 maybe 5 vst instrument plugins going, at least 5-10 effects plug ins here and there, and like I said 40mb or more a kit and I load 10, 20, sometimes 50 kits depending, and I also click off 24 bit in Preferences, and the amount of beats I made I would say at least 100-150 maybe more even. I've had the Ren since Sept 30 2012 I think. somewhere around there. It took 48 minutes to transfer to my external harddrive.

So how does the Ren deal with this? Does it duplicate the wavs from a Kontakt patch?

If you've got your standard 50MB project running and you decide to finesse the beat with your favourite 1GB Kontakt piano patch, does this additional 1GB get saved with your project? If it does then it's obviously pretty lame. I've not encountered another piece of software that acts that way. :hmmm:

It saves it the same way a daw does. It just references the patch used and the settings. It reads from you Kontakt library and loads the patch into ram. If you move your library, the patch will be unfound when the project is loaded.

I too hope that Akai will give us the option to save/re-save samples or simply reference them, because of this I tend to use Kontakt (and not the Ren) for my drum samples just so I won't be resaving the same sample 100 times.

There's your problem. Even if you only loaded 10 kits per beat, at 40MB each x 100 beats = 40GB of data just in drum kits! Variables!
