3000 timing

Is there any truth to the timing issues i hear about all the time on the 3000.!!!!!!!


I must say the machine does hit alot louder then the other MPC'S...........if you turn the 2000xl up in the master mixer window to plus 6db there is not alot of diffrence between the machines sound wise.

what timing issues are those?

People say that the feel is tighter on the 3000 (ie) Linn designed it and the swing feels is diffrent.

It's all heresay unless someone can quanitifiably measure 'tighter', 'louder' and 'swing' are. Looking at an MPC3000 while you are listening to it is hardly scientific. It is about as far from a double-blind test as you can get and goes against known methods of evaluation.

I thought that "issue" meant there was a problem...

anyway - the 60 is tight as a nat's chuff

theres def a diffference in the sequencing of the 3K/60 vs. 2000/4000, dont let the stats fool you, neither is better or worse just subtly different. when i had a 2KXL i would use the same shift and swing settings on tracks and they would sound different than what i was used to and i messed with a 4K for a bit, same sh!t.

Ok folks ... in plain English for you.

The MPC60, MPC60MK2, ASQ10 and MPC3000 use the same timing scheduler.

Drum/Event and MIDI event tasks are handled at the software level in an almost identical way.

The MPC3000 though has at it's disposal a far more powerful DSP chip and CPU combination. ( S3000 rather than S900 class ).

IE: The CPU can make certain that everything happens with the tightness you would expect of more available CPU cycles per second to do the job.

IE2: The DSP chip deals with WAY faster RAM than an MPC60 and hence things can be moved around a lot quicker.

In theory an MPC3000 will remain more solid when being pushed to the limit because it has way more grunt.

The MPC2000 and MPC2000XL are derived very much from the MPC3000 in terms of hardware.

Anything else that is perceived to be different

You would need to quantify it on a test bench.
