MPC + Chromatic Tuner

Is it possible to plug the headphone output of an MPC into a Chromatic Tuner and just play one shots and have the tuner tell you what key the one shot is in?

i figured i could just hit a pad with a one shot on it, have the tuner tell me what key the one shot is and i could just fine tune the one shot inside the MPC until its the key I want.

if this is possible, anyone have a suggested tuner they'd like to share.

the sounds in mind for me are basically just drums and percussion. kick drums, hats, snares, etc.

Yes you can. I do this often. Also works well for tuning instruments like synths or guitar when you're recording/sampling.

But it doesn't work on drums, because they're too short and most of the time not too clear on tone.

I've got a simple Korg tuner from the local musicstore. Works great.

it will work but only on monophonic, single sounds.

wont work on chords, wont work on samples with more than one instrument.

it has to be one note, one instrument - and then it will tell you the 'pitch' of that particular sample, not the 'key' of a song. the 'key' is determined by the relation of pitches to each other, not the single pitch of one sample - though you might get the 'root note' which could give you an indication of the key.
