mv 8000/8800

yeah, sometimes they have a spare part.. or maybe (though doubtful) mpc-stuff has one... they do have some MV stuff. Maybe the mv nation forum has info on where to get parts?


I know getting a service manual for the MV is close to impossible... I haven't seen one in years... and roland wont let me have one. That would allow you to find out what the part is.. maybe there is a way by looking at the part and seeing if there is a similar one at a parts website?

it sort of works but its glitchy.

Plus mv nation is useless, I registered twice months ago and was waiting for moderation approval for ages.

oh it does? so I suggest spritzing some contact cleaner type spray in the knob... it is probably grime accumulating that is causing the digital encoder to screw up... I have fixed many knobs like that... except I never had the issue with the mv.

as for MVN.. I am not a member there... I didn't try, but I have read some interesting stuff as a lurker.

same here but the opening up the mv isn't a simple task, is there a guide somewhere.

Plus, MVnation isn't useless as a site but it doesn't help when you want to participate but unable to because of poor moderation.

well I dont know about a guide.... it is essentially all about removing screws (piles of them) and making sure you put them back in the right spot...


if you had to get to that component though... it would require you to remove boards and undue those stupid ribbon cables etc..

honestly, I suggest you pop the wheel's cap off and squirt some from the top onto the metal cylinder post thing that gets turned... just a small squirt at a time and turn it which will cause it to go into the mechanism of the encoder/knob.


do it a couple of times and you might even feel less drag (for lack of a better term) as the spray lubricates the encoder...

Don't have the mv with me but can you do that without opening up screws and stuff?.

yeah no unscrewing... it's the data wheel we're talking about.. right? the one that is black and about two inches in diameter? well with your fingers you can pull it off (it takes a little bit of force but it slides off a metal peg) anyhow if you spritz the sides of that metal peg and turn it... the spray will drizzle into the mechanism of the knob..

you can get contact cleaner spray from an electronic components shop or online.. some people on the forum recommend deoxit... though I don't know personally how that works.

cheers didn't know that was possible, but so contact solution would fix the jog wheel skipping back on it self?, or something more serious?.

Well it might.. but instead of just removing it and throwing it away to replace it with a new one... you should try that first.

Because the encoder has clicks.. and when dust and stuff gets in there over time and the encoder knob itself gets worn in... bits of grime or what ever can cause it not to read properly. Sometimes that causes the value you want to change to just jitter or maybe go the other way.. or skip around instead of going up or down the way it should.. the cleaner should lubricate and remove some of that grime so the encoder can properly tell when it's being turned.

So surprised how much better the 8800 is over the 8000, from the speed to zero cross editing and fade in and out is a blessing.

Anyway got a question though,

Sampled a record and created my chops and created a patch however, how do you
batch select all the chops so I can set the ADSR or mute groups to one.

Where as at the moment I'm simply hitting each slice and changing the parameter for each pad so for example they're all on group 1 and its slow compared to a MPC.

yeah... it's probably roland looking out for you cause sampling is illegal... they don't want you break the law and shit... like how akai will throw you under a bus..

I wonder who were the engineers that designed the MV. I really wanna slap them in the **** faces for marketing this thing as a sampler. Its a Gun Dam gotdammit!

Everyone's best bet looking for replacement parts is to call Roland direct, a few years ago i needed the VGA door and some buttons and tack switch's, they had everything and it was mad cheap, the vga door i had to wait a couple weeks to get, but i was able to get it, the more parts people order the better, i would assume that they would take notice right

They still have plenty of replacement parts, i called a month ago to price a screen,they still have them available,if anybody has a spare one......

6yrs ago so a while after they discontinued mv8op1 and there wasnt any available online I called them up to ask if they had any in stock...to my surprise they didnt have any for sale but they did offer replacements for your broken one
