(i'm reposting this in the good forum as suggested - added some details)

Hi there !
Still super happy with JJOS2XL on my MPC 1000, it's smoking.
Currently using JJOS 2XL 3.33

I have to do live Jam recently.
While playing, I can record all the notes on the fly (and pitch bend and anything) I want, on any track, no problem. But after a few minutes you naturally need to change your patterns, and then, I got a problem :

I can't find how to erase a whole track in one time, all I can do is : record(over dub) + erase + [A bar], so it's deleting the current BAR of the track.
but this manipulation has many problems :
- only delete 1 bar a time. So on a long pattern, you have to wait for the full pattern until it's deleted !
- it does not delete pitch changes, only the notes. Wich is a bigger problem, since when I play again on this, it's bending my pitch with the latests move still in the box.

A track mute isn't enough since my idea is to rewrite another track on the fly (and then not possible since the track is muted and not empty)

I hope I'm clear enough with my english.

Can someone tell me if I miss something or the reasons of such limitations ?
The only thing I really miss is a simple button "erase track" that works while playing.

---- I also noticed this limitation from the JJOS : when you play a sequence, if you've done some recording, then you can NOT change the sequence before you make STOP (wich breaks the live jam situation ..). (however, that was possible on older JJOS 2XL versions, but some bugs occured : the latest recorded tracks were finally found on the next sequence, wich was a big mess :) ) So I guess this limitation is a protection against this bug. ----

THanks for your help !

No you can not delete sequence or track as it plays. Thats why peeps are telling you to use track mutes.

For live play you need to use different tracks for each element and not stack all the sounds up in one track. Use mute track groups as well to cut out more than one track at a time. You can change tracks on the fly easily to.

There is a lot of tracks so you can do lots of parts and switch em up. I use foot switch to play/overdub with no metronome and no count in so can drop in a new sequence or track in a tap.
You can delete more than one bar. You can also delete whole sequence in one go. Read the manual to see how. Same answer for pitch bend data and midi data. Just adjust the settings in the delete window instead of the default yeah. :(
And maybe make some patterns and assign them to a program to have some preset fills and samples to as it works with your live BPM to.
Also try hitting erase and pad to erase as it loops. It might work to but it's not so great for live in my opinion. Still you might need that to.

While playing ? please, if you know tell me. I've tweaked the mpc every way and read the JJOS manual without figuring out. If you're speaking about the Erase Window, we can't access it while playing. And it's always set to "erase all events", but the erase function while playing just delete notes. Pitch bend still there.

My point is to jam endless,so every trick about preparing blank tracks , or blank patterns, are somehow very limited solutions. Blank tracks : I'm using like 8 track per pattern, so blank tracks will allow me to make only 8 variations. Blanks patterns (or sequences) means starting from scratch every sequence change. And even so, you have to STOP/START again to be allowed to change sequence, since you've recorded something.

Erase and pad while playing, it's what I'm doing. But it's no deleting any pitch bend. Now I really think it's something developpers forgot ! I don't know if I can warn them of this, but i'm pretty sure it would be pretty simple to make it work ....

So this pretty MPC (still love it though) is just one step away from the real jam ultimate machine ....

Found a small trick about the full track delete in 1 time :

Playing in 1 bar only, but actually we can extend this single bar with signature, up to 16 x 4 step ! so this problem is solved.

however, still not deleting pitch bend

I said you can not delete as it plays. Again you may not understand that track mute is better option. Other tracks can be assigned to same outputs. So you can mute 8 in one pad hit and go to next blank 8 tracks and have same output setup.
Save this as a template and copy sequence. Make it auto load. This is as close as you can get cos not anyone works this way really.
I would make patterns myself. Much better IMO. Saved in programs in os 3. So make 200 patterns including pitch bend data and use them live and then you can stack up over 64 tracks all assigned out anyway you want and play and record live.
I don't know what you do live but really I think your workflow is counter intuitive to the machine. It's good but limited. With some prep of pattern data then set to pad will free up your live play. And no you can't make it live. But I can not frankly think of any pitch bend data you would do live that is so special it is magical. It's just pitch bend data :/ so if you make 4 - 16 of em I think you got all examples you could want for live play. This method latches to BPM so stays in time. This can be set to loop or one shot play. So you see this is much better way to play live for me. I think to it will help you to if you forget how you usually do it and try setting up patterns. They can be blank and just bars of pitch data. Then set to pad and chosen bank in program giving you live pitch bend patterns. You can still add stuff live but patterns work better. Make a pitch bend program - make blank tracks with pitch bend data only, save as patterns, assign to pads. Save program of this patterns of pitch bends by pad and make it auto load. Sorted. This will allow you to set a program of just bars of pitch bend data at a push of a pad to what ever other track you want live. Looped or single shot ect so you can do pitch bend to anything in time anytime at press of a pad

thanks for your concern !

Beside that I'm using the MPC for "regular" live use and it's totally okay, I'm using mute a lot.

In this thread's case, I'm speaking about endless improvisation (maybe I wasn't clear enough, sorry) so nothing can be written in advance. For this I'm using the MPC as a big multitrack midi recorder (controling external synths). At some point I started messing up with pitch bend, recorded on the fly on my current loop (like a funk bassline, played with keyboard, using the pitch bend wheel) and that was really cool. But these pitch bend won't delete with the erase fucntion while playing. I just found it weird (yes, why ? I doesn't look more complicated, technically, than erasing notes). But don't worry I accept it (and hope they'll correct it in a future OS update) and I'm still amazed by MPC + JJOS.

As you suggest I thought about using different tracks, but it was such a mess to have 8 tracks or more, controling the same instrument. Didn't like the idea ... but I'll give some other shots.

Beside that I like this idea of doing blank patterns with pitch bend data and it's giving me other ideas :-) like doing patterns of just midi data, like you say, that will mess up the sound while I'm playing.

Thank for your replies, it's helping
