what is the most quiet fan to put in the mpc4000?

The hd is not the only heat-generating component. I would not recommend removing the fan.

are you using silenx?

No, I installed a noctua fan and can highly recommend them. All but completely silent and still moves the requisite volume of air.

ok, i see they are a bit more expensive

is decibel measured on yours? is it also around 12 db?

I have the noctua installed, I have to put my head closer to the mpc to hear it. I recommend it. You have to splice the third wire as mentioned by Jim Fowler. Thanks for the tip Jim!

It's the noctua NF-A6x25. It is 60x25 in size. I bought mine online from aaawave.com

The Noctua is a quality fan. I installed it too not long ago.

When used without any (rpm reducing) adapters it is definately noticeable.

When using the LNA adapter, the noise is significantly reduced, but to be honest you can still hear it when working close to the mpc.

When you install the ULNA adapter, you cannot hear it at all. You must put your ear right to the fan to hear/feel it working. I am using this right now as i HATE noise.
(Be warned though, when you plug the ULNA adapter on, its spinning at a MUCH slower RPM speed and flowing less than the original fan. )

PS: make sure you dont go touching the inside of the mpc whilst its powered on/plugged in ok?

if it's moving less air then how is it a good replacement?
That would mean less cooling than Akai deemed necessary.
