I have cables everywhere and its driving me nuts......here is the deal...Im trying to hook everything up together so I can dump into pro tools.. I have the 4000, mophatt sound module, roland 307 groove box, yamaha aw4416, us122 tascam audio/interface,oxygen 8 midi keyboard and last but not least pro tools(mbox)..... The midi part is giving me a headache!..... I want to be able to conrol the sound modules via the oxygen 8, sequence it in the mpc, drop some drum tracks, make pro tools the master and dump it in there........!!!!!!!!!!!!

Use your midi interface take your mods midi outs and route them to
your midi ins on your interface use your midi sync options inside of
pro-tools to sync your mods so that you can trigger them from pro-
tools you will also need a good mixer for this also.

Once your mp is synced with pro-tools once you hit the play button
inside pro-tools your mp will start playing then you record straight
into pro-tools or dump it's your call.

On the tascam us122 it only has a midi in and midi out connection...This is what I use to sync the mp to pro tools... but my thing is Im trying to trigger sounds with my midi keyboard controller from the roland and the mo phatt into the mpc........! The 2 ins and 4 outs on the back of my mpc is throwing me off......

You dont really need to use the u22 to sync your mp to protools
only if thats your only midi interface you need more midi ins and
midi outs I have 2 midiman 4x4's one for my pc and one for my
lap you may want to use the midi thru to in on your mods.

Try this take your midi in (1) on your MP and route that to your midi
out on your tascam and take your midi out (A) and route that to your
midi in on the tascam. [All this should be routed from your MPC]

I use a Mackie 1202 and I just run my rec. line ins to my main outs
I have my midi in (1) into the midiman out and the midi out (A) to the
midiman in.

Something has to be the slave and something has to be the master

Thats my problem, I don't have enough midi ports.......I need enough midi ports so I can midi everything up to the mp.... build my sequences and then slave the mp to pro tools so I can do my mixdown in there.....As far as a mixer goes I have the yamaha aw4416 I can use for that,,,,,,,!

should be able to do it all the mpc has 2 midi outs - 32 channels. im guessing the mo-phat is 16 chan, turf out the roland (they're wak) and put the yamaha on the other output if not use the midi thru. hook your controller to midi in. snuff protool and use the yamaha. it may even have a feature for saving tracks to cd that you can open it up in protools and coninue the sesh there. you already have a dope multitrack recorder.

the oxygen midi out should go to the midi in A of the MPC that's how you'll send the note and controller data to the mpc. Midi out A of the MPC should hook into the Midi in of the MoPHAT, the 307 only needs to have the time code so you can hook it from any of the midi outs on the mpc and sync it with the mpc MTC (unless you want to record sweeps etc in the mpc and not in the roland).... the M-box has no Midi ports so you can cop a small midi interface 4 x 4 and hook that to the pc. then use the midi out on the midi interface and send that to the Midi in B of the mpc. then in pro tools, you have to go to the sync options and send MTC to the MPC in B and set the mpc to slave to mtc on midi in B... voila, that should do it. you could also use your mixer for transport control of both protools and the mpc.

Okay def I got everything connected but you mentioned using the yamaha for transport control of both the mpc and pro tools....Im trying to have set up so that the master fader on the yamaha controls the overall volume in the mix and each fader controls the volume of each module before I record it into pro tools.....The guy told me at the guitar center to run the mbox through the yamaha but I can get no results.........Whats up?......

just connect the out of the oxygen to the first in on the mpc. Then just connect all the outs to the ins on your sound modules.

****You dont have to do a handshake method if you use a midi controller. You only have to do that, for example, if you have a keyboard (like a triton) and want to use its sounds, and use its keys. Because in this scenario, its acting as both a controller keyboard, and also a sound module.

But if you have a controller, you just have to have it going in, it will send messages to the mpc, then have the outs of the mpc telling the sound modules what to do.

get it?

then for syncing, you just need an in, into the mpc, you dont need handshake. So since you have one in left, just connect that to the midi outs of your computer......set the mpc to slave and except the message on the 2nd port or whatever plug you put it in.

peace

If all you have are racks, and want one keyboard to control them all this will work.

If I understand your question... You are just trying to get the sound of your modules into protools... just hook all the audio outputs from your gear into the mixer inputs and because you have just two inputs and outputs on the mbox, just send bus 1 and two to the mbox from your mixer and return the mbox outs back into the mixer.... then when you want to record your track on pro tools, send it to bus one or one and two if it's stereo and then ARM the track in protools... you should able to see the signal in protools.... Then you monitor the signal that''s in the protools track on your mixer.... [/list]

I think your question has been asnwered, but if not then here is what I would do:

MPC Out A => Mo-Phatt In
MPC Out B => 307 In
MPC In A => Oxygen 8 Out
MPC In B => AW4416 Out
AW4416 In => MBox Out

This will allow you to sequence on the MPC with the Oxygen 8 as the keyboard controller. The Mo-Phatt and 307 would be controlled by the MPC (either by the pads or by the Oxygen 8 - your choice).

The above connections are only for the MIDI. I would suggest connecting ALL the audio out cables from the MPC, Mo-Phatt, and 307 into the AW4416. Then connect the AW's digital out (I think it has one) to the digital in of the MBox (This should have one too). If the MBox does not have a digital in then you could connect it via analig connections.

You would then record into the AW4416, and this setup allows you to control the MPC's transport from the AW. The AW would be able to provide the master clock for ALL of your gear. Once you have recorded into the AW you could then dump that to the Mbox.

Man I can't thank you homies enough...... Im going to pull my yamaha out and see if i can get this hooked up right!.......Check this.....You people might have already answered it but....! You know on the mpc when you have your tracks and you assign them individually into pro tools for recording right....Well how come when I let say have a midi track playing on the mpc I can't get it to register into pro tools....I know midi does not transmit audio but how will I assign that track into pro tools to play like I assign an audio track.......

By Windy_City_Hawk Thu Dec 16, 2004 1:10 am
Hmmm. That's a tough one! What you seem to be asking is that you want to send the MIDI data into Pro Tools. Is this even possible? If so I would say to try to just saving your MIDI track onto disk, and then try to open it in Pro Tools.

The other issue is that you would have to set up all your instruments to be played from your PC.

I have never used Pro Tools, but I thought it only handled audio. If that is the case then the set up that I suggested would do that. Again, you have to connect all your audio outs to the AW4416, and then connect the audio outs (either digital or analog) to the MBox.

^^yeah, thats what i was trying to explain, that was definately more straight forward.

ON your second question....do you mean, when you hit "play" in protools, it automatically triggers the mpc to start playing?

Peace.
