MPC 60 over mpc 4k why or why not? A friend of mine is getting rid of his mpc 60. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 85621&rd=1 <--- mpc i may be purchasing. I read the manual for the mpc 60 o/s 3.1 and it was well written and i messed around w/ the mpc 60. even though the sampler is outdated i don't see how the mpc 4k sequencer is much better? What could u add functionality wise besides patterning (is this a word?) or layering more songs/samples etc? If you wouldn't mind on talking about some of the "can't live w/o functions" of the mpc 4k i would be much obliged TY

one things that bugs me about the 4k is the unfinished o/s, and the fact akai got bought about by numark (so i was told by akai mpd retailers i called a whole bunch of them from newjeresey to cali they all told me numark bought out akai and there have been mpd's stuck in storage ) and they r going through the take over phase. this can last up 2 a single year for large companies not sure how long it will last for akai... seriosuly when u release ure product w/ unfinished business especially on the o/s its cause u can't afford not 2 :(
i understand how the akai 4k o/s is solid now, but the false advertising makes me distrustful.

I haven't read the manual for the 4k and i don't know much about the machine besides the specs on zzsounds

On a related note why has akai not taken a giant risk and just made their unsuccesful o/s open source. Its clear they have the hardware and the hardware has the technical components... their not the only ones who can progam an o/s.... so why not let the public do the work so we can get what we want?

I guess I'll take a shot at this flame bait:

They are the only ones who can program their OS , because they OWN it and they
have the right (by being the owners/creators) to specify who THEY want to program
on it. That's just the way it is. I don't see Roland, Access, Korg , or Clavia doing this.
(though plenty of people wanted OS X version of Nord Modular editor)
The Hardware market is a very competitive market. Many company's and fewer users.
Why would Numark who just spent a huge undisclosed amount of money give away
what they just purchased. They wouldn't. Sun can release Solaris to Open Source
because they can make their money in Service.

I would say, the reason why they haven't done this , is look at the MV-8000. Roland's
clueless, and why should Akai give them the nail to put in their coffin.

There are fewer and fewer things that were advertised that are not available in OS 1.60.

They are adding new features that were not EVER advertised.

And myself, I would rather have a work in progress OS that will keep my Instrument updated and current over the years, then get something like Roland where you get what you get. Sorry that we have bugs (MC-909) but we're not going to change them. We're more worried about the next greatest and latest.

Remember, one can always start an Open Source project on your own and start creating
your OWN OS for your MPC if you have that kind of talent. People are still trying that
for the OS X/Linux Nord Modular editor.

Cheers,
Dave

R U serious? 60 over a 4k? Money is the only reason me, myself, or I
would pick a 60 over a 4k. I've played with a 60 just a few times, I've played with a 4k just a few times. If you got the loot get a 4k and be done with it.

Not sure if you are referring to me or not. I don't see any hating going on in this thread.
See some information being distributed. Plus I don't see in anyway that I
benefit (self promotion)
from posting here, unless there happens to be a bunch of people on this board who
like Electro and Techno and are from Portland OR. My experiences indicates otherwise.

I don't hate newbies, I don't hate anyone. Self-promotion, don't need it, no one knows me and I'm happy with that.

The features for the machine are all over the internet AND this forum.

Personl plugs on hatin on a newbie, where, show me ONE. I just don't like to do others homework for them that's all, I've helped out way more than
cause hate, harm and discontent.

As much as I love the 4k I still dont have much love for AKAI. They are just as guilty of **** their customers as roland. My old s3000xl still had bugs in it that made it freeze and only resolution was to reboot (and loose your work), and there was never an update for that. If you owned a 4k for some time, like 2 years, you remember there wasnt any OS update for 9 months at one point and there was horrible bugs back then. Many sold their 4k at this point and moved on, and some kept it and are now finally seeing it come close to what is what announced to be. Granted theres a few new features that wasnt advertised but still, those YEARS of waiting really made alot of people frustrated. Anyway, thats history now, its a great machine (now!) and hopefully we'll see the new os before 2005.

If akai makes another mpc I sure as hell wont stand in line to get it at the release date, I'll make sure its what its supposed to be before even thinking about it.

That's what turned me away fromt he 4k when it first came out, I waited and read dam near EVERY post here about the bugs. I didn't ask ?'s I jsut soaked it all up like a sponge. I still don't have one, but next year I'm going to take the plunge now that things are seemingly good from what I read, people seem to be happy and working fine within their 4k's. I wanna be a 4k'er also but I was just waiting, the time is almost here for me to jump into the fray though.
