16 Level bass = proper notes?

If I have a C note on a single pad and then hit 16 level > Tune. are those 16 pads now producing tuned notes....C–D–E–F–G–A–B?.

I'm trying to work out how you create C–D–E–F–G–A–B and turn your MPC into a keyboard. Or can this only be achieved my sampling individual notes.

I would really like to hear some feedback on peoples experiences with 16 level bass.

No, it makes notes in a Chromatic scale ie. with all the sharps and flats present (like a Piano).
If you want to play a scale (like C–D–E–F–G–A–B [ Major scale in C ] ) you will have to work out which pads to play and which to avoid.

I have a very ruff idea on music theory sorry, let say you have a piano sample that is a single C note. playing a C flat/sharp bass over that would sound cool? I have a MPC1000 with JJOS1.....Cheers for the feedback mate!

Not unless you were making some very Avant Garde music with a chromatic scale.

The chromatic notes on the pads go:

C
C sharp
D
E flat
E
F
F sharp
G
A flat
A
B flat
B

Work out which pad your original C note is on ( I think you can choose it when you press 16 levels) and work the rest out from there.

It will vary. Every pad is a semi tone, Pad 4 (bottom Right) is the default original (I think this can be changed) but otherwise the original sample will be placed on Pad 4, and then notes lower are detuned, upper notes are raised. If you go somewhere on the mpc itself (I have the mpc 5000) I think into MODE_Disk and hit util it shows the default pattern, and 4 (if I remember) is B. So if your original sample is a c piano note the C will end up on the B pad, the MPC does NOT place it somewhere based on the key of it.

The one neat thing about this is you can just learn patterns on the mpc. So a minor blues scale would hit certain pads and not others. BUT if you change or tune the root note, you will be playing a minor blues scale, in a different key.

That being said, of course you can find multi samples, and assign any note anywhere you'd like. This is usually perferable as things stretched more than 5 tones or so tend to sound artifacty.
