What specifically do you need for it 'to be there yet'? The answer this will surely help you find your answers. But the bottom line, you will still have to try it out for yourself. No amount of forum chatter will really tell you if this is the product for you. You can end up either buying a product that doesn't meet your needs or pass up on a product that would be perfect for you.

Wow...I was gonna trying a post a positive thread about the Ren, then I saw this and said cool lemme just add on.

I've been a dedicated MPC owner since 2000 my 1st MPC being the MPC2000. I've used numerous models and THE REN has been the best thus far. I waited till OS v1.4 came out to make the purchase and I couldn't be happier. To me this model MPC is the cream of the crop and does, for the most part, what all the other did and more.

I've had my REN for about 2 months and this weekend actually was my 1st real time getting to know it in it's entirety. Upon opening up a project from another MPC with a MIDI chord phrase I was able to move the chords around with ease....just by copying and pasting. I can't play keys so this was a blessing.....I wouldn't have been able to do what I was doing this weekend with any of my other model MPCs.

If v1.4 is the last OS (which it better not be) I still would be able to do more that I was able to do before.

I'm like Jah at this point. Nobody better say nothing bad about THE MPC REN.

If you never owned an mpc you might buy a Ren and not appreciate it or be uncomfortable with the workflow, so first decide if you want an mpc in general. There's maschine which is pretty good too but it's been out like 4 years and I think the Ren is almost ahead of it already and give the Ren just 2 years and it will probably make the maschine feel like a toy. Maschine comes with more sounds libraries but its all the same bland generic factory sounds any product willl give you, but NI does give away a lot of sounds. The Ren you will probably need to provide more of your own sounds and vsts. The Ren might be a little more buggy at this point but its fine for the most part. If you've owned other mpcs before or currently own an older mpc I would say def pick up a Ren, probably the most beast mpc to date and getting better. Also make sure you have a good computer before you decide to go Ren/maschine or any software route for that matter. People ask why they hear pops and clicks and and why software is running choppy and they get lag and dont even think to check their cpu hardware specs before investing in software. Lastly, I know people think that 1200 is expensive but when you see and feel the quality of the hardware and see how well the format and workflow from the hardware mpcs has been translated into a software format, it doesnt feel so overpriced. I was hating hard on the Ren at first bc it was lacking in the beginning but its pretty good right now, honestly if I see any negative comments on the Ren I assume the person doesnt have one or just doesnt know how to use it lol. If there's one thing I noticed is that people who never used an mpc before seem to have a hard time figuring out the most basic things on the Ren, and seem like they would have a problem on any mpc

Lets put it this way, Ive used older mpcs, maschine, roland fantoms, korgs workstations, fruity loops, and daws like pro tools to compose beats. Not much I can't do on the Ren that I couldnt do on any of those, not to mention the worlflow of the Ren is light years ahead of its closest competitor in my opinion

They are definitely in high flux right now for whatever reason.
It's kinda bad when you think about most of those units changing hands were purchased new.

there is a music store near my house thats selling them for 999. 50 dollar deposit to order it in, but still.

brand new for 1000 is great to me imo, i remember paying 550 for my mpc 500 in 2007 with a flash card and manual etc

im not trying to buy such a sophisticated machine like the ren USED... i wouldnt feel right about it. i plan on copping the ren in the next couple of weeks hopefully, except i have to upgrade my memory on my mac first

There have always been tons of MPCs on the second hand market. These products are massed produced in the thousands. Seeing several dozen show up on the second hand market is typical. Even the prices of hardware MPCs are still dropping. Likewise, look up the number of Maschine units on eBay. There are plenty of MK1 and MK2 units on the second hand market.

Music production products are not assets that appreciate. As soon as you take them home (aka drive it off the lot), the value of it on the second hand market immediately and significantly drops.

Getting back on topic, the discussion is about what the Ren can contribute to your music production (as opposed to your investment portfolio) now. I would also take into account the amount of resources and support Akai/Numark/Sonivox are putting into this platform. In 25+ years, this is the most supported MPC to date. There has been 4 updates in less than a year with another on the horizon. Every update has included several feature requests from users/non-users alike. In addition to manufacturer support, user support in this forum is top notch. You can frequent this forum and pretty much receive step-by-step instructions on how to get the most out of your Ren/Studio from actual Ren/Studio users or picking up an eBook that is being sold here.

Too bad I (we) can't share what is planned for this platform. All I can say is that it will continue to get better...and the improvements look very similar to many of the feature requests in this forum.

I second that. IMO its great and exciting to know that it even going to be better. I love my Ren and bought it a few weeks back so I came in at O.S. 1.4 as well. I usually do that to give the company a chance to work out what ever kinks it may have. Most likely most of the used REN's on the market were probably put up for sale before said updates which I can understand. I love the workflow, couldn't express how happy I am to have this workflow back without having to emulate all that is classic MPC like sound and timing, song play etc.. The REN is the BEST.

I just checked eBay. There are no $600 Ren's currently. There is one auction with a starting bid of $600. $780 is the cheapest Buy It Now price. You can get a new one from most authorized dealers for less than$1150.

Copped the Ren on the 23rd of August and i must agree with most I would not pay $1300 for it. I got mine on e$ay for $849 including shipping w/1 yr factory warranty.
Why buy a used one to save $75 bucks? As a MPC user I love the work flow and I bought Maschine 1st. So i use Maschine as a VST inside on MPC software.Best workflow ever Maschine library and MPC content equals much inspiration.

It works for me. But you will have to try it out yourself and report back to give your own opinion/share your experience.
