MPC 5000 SUX

I've used the 2500 for years now. I upgraded a couple weeks ago to the 5000 because I desperately needed the 64 voice polyphony and I wanted to keep using an MPC that operated similarly to the 2500 (thus eliminating the 4000 as an option). I'm running 2.0 on it. After a few weeks, I can say I'm going to return this thing. Having to learn a new workflow is one thing, but having inconsistencies is completely unacceptable. Track mutes and solo track functions seem to do whatever they want sometimes, which is a joke. When you string sequences together into a song, it doesn't keep your muted/unmuted tracks within the sequences as they were before you strung them together. Huge pain for me. Plus the thing is just slow and often unresponsive to immediate button pushing, which can be stressful if you're trying to work fast. I'll just go back to my 2500 and it's 32 voice polyphony because I'd rather have to deal with that problem than the aforementioned ones. Just wanted to vent to some fellow users.

Don't eliminate the 4K as an option.

It's a killer MPC if you can get hold of one.

If you hate the 5k, you're gonna love the 4k. It ameliorates all the wrongs of the 5. I myself went from 5k to 4k and couldn't be happier.

Never had any issues with mutes on my 5k.

Long time MPC 1000 (JJOS) user Had an opportunity to pick up a used 5000(expanded) for a great price, so I took the plunge!. Initial impression: Sound quality is very impressive, and the effects are a great step up, the resolution is definitely noticeable when playing piano riffs and basslines. As many have said the synth is quite handy addition. So far no issues, (one freeze) and I've being given it a good work-out. Multi-pad is great for global settings. Chopping is not too bad, I have being using auto-chop,high sensitivity, then decide which chops to divide or join(same as JJ). I generally prefer to re-play my parts rather than changing notes; also for chopping remember you can do it in recycle, save as akp file with midi file and then save to MPC, also noticed saving large files wasn't to bad. The synth section for multisamples works well, even thogh it is watered down from the 4000, but I don't really care about the matrix mod. Anyway happy so far, in a way it seems the bad press has pushed the prices down, good for some!

I went from the 2000 to the 1000 with jjos to the 5. I have played with 2500 and 4000 and must say I like all. They all have a similar feel as well as things that make each unique. Since you already ahve it, give it a little time and get used to the slightly different workflow and you may find a new love for it.

I have never run into the muted and unmuted tracks issue when chaining together a song, but I guess a fairly quick workout for you would be if its muted in another sequence, just press erase button and kill that track in that particulty sequence. If you need it, it's likely not going to be muted, or be as you want it in another track. (Maybe clone with certain things present or removed)
