Upgraded from a 2000xl and 500 to a 5000. Looking at copping the 4 stacks too. I haven't posted on here since about 2008...long story...lol. Caught a serious deal on my 5000 a few weeks ago at GC. Mint condition, cd, but all memory upgrade was there..all for 625. Been up after work, sampling and sequencing like crazy on this MP...classic MPC 3000 pads imo. My new workhorse, I'm going to use the 4000 too when I cop that, just as well!!!!! I just had to cop some hardware again after maschine'ing it out the last few years!!!! :-D

I've been using my 5000 a lot lately while I wait for my 4000. There are definitely things I like about it. $625 is a great price. It is definitely worth that, especially with those upgrades.

I want a full sized MPC for home with modern connection options. The 5000 has the connection options but it isn't a great machine in my opinion. The midi-clock is whack and the OS feels unfinished. Don't get me wrong, it mostly works for what I want to do, but I'm of the current opinion that the 4000 is a much better device.

Ya the reason I ask is hadn't even really considered the 4k, as I was debating MPC 5K/Roland mvs/Machine...just assumed it would be a better unit all around b/c its the "flagship". I still think it was a good choice for me, because it is, as far as I know the only one that will let u plug in a synth or mic and record tracks (not just samples) or does the 4K do that too?
Another thing that I was curious about, and IDK if either of you know anything about this, but apparently, the 5k was the 3500 initially (theres a youtube vid). Anyone know why they decided to make this the 5000k? if it was the 3500, would make sense that it isn't as sick. At first glance, the 4k is more impressive, more banks more memory, but I think it lacks the recording features and the synth (which I dont really need since I have 3). Maybe a little off topic, but just curious if you had heard about the 3500/5000 swap and the logic behind it. I have actually been "watching" 4k's on ebay and when there cheap, I am always like "why not" then when it climbs to a higher price I am always, "well do i NEED this?". Any pics of the 2 side by side? I know the 5k is bigger, but it is a big difference, I certainly couldnt have a 5k on my lap in a bus for long....

Can you tell me a little more abt the midi clock, what's wrong with it? Glitches? Any fix? I am using 2.0, so I dont know if they fixed it or not, have not really exploited its midi functions but plan to. Does it do better reading clocks, like if I synced IT to a synth instead of vice versa? Thanks! Have u found the 4ks more stable?

Precisely why I am debating on adding studio to my arsenal. Just for portabiliy. I had a 500 for that reason but after a few yrs on the 5000, I just couldn't adjust to the 500 while sitting in the car on a road trip, with the wife driving.

As orginal posted said in subject,

So I may get Studio or even Ren, but will def be holding on to my 5000 for some time, unless someone wants one bad enough to offer me enough to let it go lol

Posted my 5k on ebay and it sold... I'm missing it already and still using it. They have yet to pay for the item so I hope they don't so I can do a non payment thru ebay and not sell it lol

Curious. How much did you sell it for?

Far too little... I had it set as auction instead of buy now (as I did initially) and only 1 person bid on it and got it at the starting price, which was a couple hundred less than my initial buy now price (which was comparable to stock systems that had higher bids on them then my buy now) where I have 1.5 TB HD and cd burner/dvd installed.

I am surprised they didn't pay for it yet as its quite a steal compared to other auctions/buy now. I hope to close open case this weekend and just hang on to it for a while and maybe relist it with buy now and free shipping, once I dig into the MPC Studio for a while and see how my workflow goes on that.

I am so uncertain as the 5k has never let me down and almost 3 yrs I have never had any issue with making tracks on it.

Yes and for those that have come late to the game, can now pick up a 5000 and crazy prices, I mean less than a 1000 in some cases. It sure has its quirks, like leaving TC at 99% to preserve note lengths, making sure you have good house-keeping with regards to file management etc. Direct recording is a gem with a footswitch, Most important the sound is >> than a 1000/2500

I love my 5k, quirks and all, and fortunately haven't ran into any over the last few yrs.

I have seen a crazy range in prices. Some I wonder how well they may work. Other prices I'm like, is someone really going to pay that much. I have to look again to make sure its not a MPC5000XL or something...

mpc1000 and 2500 can do that after installing JJOS as well...
