2000xl doesn't need a start up disk, the 2000 needs one though.
Format a floppy disk on your computer to fat16/fat.
Try downloading the OS again, unzip it to that floppy.
Try that as your start up disk.

Probably right, get one from any local mom and pop shop and switch it out. Buy the floppy drive (it's a standard pc floppy drive).

Open up your mpc (don't be scared). Unplug the ribbon cable, unplug the pwr cable, unscrew the thing, replace with the newly purchased floppy drive (they are cheap), screw back in place (same screws in the same places), plug up the same ribbon cable and pwr. red line on ribbon cable faces toward the pwr plug. makes sure everything is tight and right, close it up and make beats.
