I'd go with this one... it's the most recent 2-ch audiocard from Roland.

I've got an earlier UA-4FX and I'm pretty fine with that, not really needing 24bit processing. But hey, just take into account that almost any USB Audio Interface will make you happy as long as it got a stereo in and a stereo out... so get to ebay/craiglist and score the cheaper functioning piece of HW, if you're insure about the specs, google the name of the device and be my guest.

I have this. It sounds great. It's battery powered. One of my favorite purchases in a long time. I use it with my iPad for midi and audio.

High Z =

Instrument (ex. guitar), high impedance, direct - input.

So, there are...

Mic input, for a mic obviously.
Hi Z, for instruments, there are low z and hi z mics but the low z tends to not be pro grade.
Line in, for ex, cd player, tape deck, etc.

You'll probably have to look at higher range interfaces for the optical out option.

Cant find any with what i want without it been massive and pricey think ill just stick to rca in/outputs. But does the usb become a line in to PC or you need a line in for pc?

Mine has optical outs but I'm pretty sure your not looking to get an RME UFX.

USB line out to pc brings your interfaces channels into your pc. Some interfaces breakout only 2 channels to your computer even though there are several hardware inputs/outputs on it. Some breakout every hardware channel into your computer.

While the alesis multimix could be useful for a lot of tasks, indeed is not exactly what you would need here. Plus it's known to have very poor driver implementation, I had the FW 12-channels version and I found it not really user-friendly as an audiocard, mostly because IT'S A MIXER, does not have motorized faders and you end up re-doing all levels every time you turn it on (not for me).

Mine (UA4FX) has got optical in/out, can do up to 48K/24bit (was unsure, I had to check since I stick to 44.1k/16bit) in fullduplex and it's a solid piece of HW, decently driven by AudioCore drivers natively.

Try to score it 2nd Hand. You don't really need more. BUT OF COURSE there are plenty of other equivalent solutions.

Two different URLs for you. Check the second to exacly define to yourself what you need and the first to see what I mean.
