I dont care about audio tracks. I dont want the MPC to be able to do everything like reason or whatever. just use reason or pro tools for the things that theyre good at (audio editing, mixing). I like having limited options. It makes me think different. When you have all this extra **** that you can supposedly do, you end up getting stuck versus being creative and figuring out a workaround to get it done.

not to say they shouldnt update and upgrade everything, but limited options arent always a bad thing. they just need to be rock solid and make sense for the MPCs intended purpose.

((fyi i use the MPC for my whole music process (sampling, composing, mixing, etc), except tracking vocals in which i use protools))

Better if they implement things (that work) and you can ignore them as part of your workflow...if that makes you more creative. Maybe those restrains you enjoy for your creativity are flowkillers for others. just sayin.

I never used them on the MPC 5000 or the 'fake' ones on the MPC 2500. They were just too limiting. But in this MPC 'DAW', I think it could be perfect. I mentioned it before....but I would prefer not to use the MPC Software as a plugin. I want the Ren/MPC Software to be the next Reason, Live, FL Studio, Studio One, etc.

That would be nice..

Plus you'll need a cpu, ram, some type of motherboard, 8 outs, built-in effects, portable storage media slot, etc. None of this would come close to comparing to what an actual modern computer can do, nor will it be as upgradable. Why anyone is fixated on a standalone MPC is beyond me!

I'm sure whatever they would release in a hardware MPC, you could find more power in an iPhone or iPad!

People demanding a hardware MPC are nuts if you asked me. Especially since many here didn't buy or support the ones that were actually released until after they were discontinued....

There is at least 3 years of sh!t talk in this forum for each MPC released in the past decade to include the MPC 4000. Fast forward to today and they are (...tired cliche') the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I remember being the only one with the MPC 2500 in this forum..and how cats were hating on it Some of those very same people turned around and bought the 2500 and now trolling this forum talking the same bs about the Ren/Studio....I don't need to say any names as I am sure they will be along shortly to respond.....

Exactly. The mothership is all about margin. Plus, Akai doesn't have the skill sets required to produce the old type of hardware anymore either.

We're not, but we know where you hang your Nukai cape if we ever pose the question.

I haven't noticed many "demands" for a new hardware MPC over the past 12 months, if at all. Nukai have never been particularly great at making hardware anyway, so it's no loss that they are now in the software/controller business.

I have seen a lot of demands from the same individuals that cried about prices of the last three flagship MPCs. No company is going to bend to the whims of any forum member to produce a hardware drum machine that will certainly lose money. There is a good reason why most companies stopped making them that alludes folks' common sense around here.

As far as 'Nukai' not being great at hardware? This statement clearly shows you have yet to even touch these products. The MPC Ren is the best controller ever created based on the views of those that have actually used it. So if 'Nukai' isn't great at making hardware then who is?

I think he's linking to the MPC5000 OS...
And Yes , The REN is sexy and solid But It definitively need an evolution and quick if they want a sale rise... An update a Quarter is a bit slow to many users these days, evenmore if each updates are missing obvious things, like the initial 1.0 release.

Why not giving away the Release candidate version for hurry users... a lot of developers share their BETA... Ha, Yeah, I hear you, Secrets, secrets, secrets... Industry/customers is a bit like Army/people.

Not sure why people feel this way. "Real" Akai MPC's have problems just as much. I have an XL, which I got brand new. I've had issues with stiff buttons that have to be pressed hard as **** to work. The play button broke. The note variation slider potentiometer is **** up and jumps all over the place. And now the screen is all **** up with a bunch of dead pixels. It's even crashed and froze a few times. And I never abused it or dropped it or smoked around it. With the exception of the bad screen, all of these issues occured within the same time frame of ownership as how long I've had my 2500. So far, only issue I had with my 2500 (bought in 2008 brand new) is the pads issue, and the black coating mysteriously rubbing off the case. I honestly wouldn't say Nukai MPC's are that much worse than "Real" MPC's, going from my personal experience.

I see that you are using Cubase. It does not receive quarterly updates. In fact, I can't think of a similar music production product that does have more frequent updates.

If users are expecting more frequent updates....in my opinion this is unreasonable, unrealistic, and unnecessary...unless there was an issue that renders the product unusable as oppose to some features that users want.

There is no software company I can think of that are implementing user requested features at the pace many expect here. If there was....I would suggest folks buy that product.

Reaper...

But its a different model/ideals on how they operate in terms of updating and testing..

I only found out about reaper via word of mouth.. And now like most users of it, are die hard fans that can't fathom how restrictive other daws are compared to it in terms of customisation/workflow.

The point being that a ipad doesn't cost $3000 .. its around $800 aus(top model wifi only)
That would make the ren around $2000 here in aus.. Something i would buy...

JAH wrote:People demanding a hardware MPC are nuts if you asked me.

I've come to realise that i dont want a traditional Standalone mpc as much, but a design that the controllers have the ability to house your computer/laptop in a protected solid manner..
The fly was the first one i was really interested in, until i found out that there wasn't any pro connection added to it.. (just the ipad in and out)

It's a space saving thing, really, especially in the live aspect. The last live show i did there wasn't any space left for the laptop to sit(as i use a keyboard stand for the ren. It sat off to the side with the umbilical usb cord stretched out hoping that no one would cross it..

I read your post. And obviously you don't have very much experience with different MPCs over the years.

It is silly comparing a $3000-$4000 MPC with ones that cost $1000-$2000. Every company that sold drum machines in that price range are no more or discontinued the product long ago.
