You could also just use the iMPC app. on an iPhone or Ipad as a scratchpad. Even though it doesn't have Audiobus it does have audio copy/paste and the sequences, kits,etc. are easily transferred to the Studio/Ren desktop apps.

20 months since the Fly was announced, still not released, not sure why it's taking so long to change the charging port. Obviously iPad 5 will be out soon, apparently new form factor this time. IMO sounds like a nightmare to keep up with compatibility, especially as it has to pass Apple's 'Made For iPad' requirements. In reality they'd need to be simultaneously offering Fly versions for iPad 3, 4 and 5 if they want to sell many units.

I'm wondering if the MPC Essentials software will work with the Ren, can't see any reason why it shouldn't.

Many of us do not have an "i"Anything but already have a laptop or desktop to run with. I cannot buy my 11 year old an iphone or ipad so that I can buy him the iMPC app. I am sure you understand. I do not have Ren but just ordered a Studio today, which should arrive sometime middle of next week, which is cool since I will be out of town until next Thursday evening. I was torn between the 2 and finally went with portability since my job keeps me away from home more than I am home.

I won't scoop up this Element but I can see that it might just have some potential uses at a 'not so bad' price.

Wow, what a letdown. I was expecting something huge. Not something rebranded. They could've just said "We're bringing you the MPC Fly for the software." This is not some "whole new element". Now 1.5 with audio tracks and a better mixer... THAT would be a whole new element.

It would make sense that the Studio and Ren can use essentials, but when you have the curent software, would it you want to use the essentials instead? Maybe just to see if it works... what woudl be 'mesed up' is if people got the Element and plugged into their system with the fill blown software, and it work lol

When the Ren software was released, there we're many hardware mpc users interested if they could use just the software alone, in order to integrate with their hardware (older mpcs) and just use the software to load projects,tweak kits,etc..

This voice was not heard,so I ended up buying the ren, loads of users will not though,so alot of sales are out there. one major request to take our workflow to the all cpu setup,eventually.. but did it fall on deaf ears,or is this software, going to be able to do this?

That's the problem with running one of these teaser campaigns, people's imaginations start going wild and inevitably it ends in disappointment.

But regardless IMO it's potentially a good product, and the price is definitely going to win people over.

Agreed. That was a pretty big build up for basically a recycled controller. I understand the necessity of marketing and hype, but it can also backfire.

On the other hand, I guess they had to do something with the materials from the unsuccessful MPC Fly project. Why not..

If this loads up all akai mpc and ren projects,sequences,.pgms', I'd buy it just for the fact I could mix freelance currently dragging the ren around is a PITA!

I guess so. I just wish that they would spend more time and focus on the current software and the integration problems with the Ren/Studio. But I don't know. Maybe they are and they just haven't said anything yet...

Hahah. Here's a whole new - unfortunately previously economically unsuccessful but now rebranded into something else - element. But I guess it's a good idea for the price. It really didn't deserve all the hype it was getting though.

I definitely think they are trying catch that duel Ren/Studio market share with this...

I took a look at the S/W screenshots on the official site and it IS most certainly "scaled back".

What I really want to know if the dohickey will unlock the MPC software or maybe there is an upgrade path... if so color me interested.

I would love to see a side by side comparison of both softwares, instead of some hyped up marketing campaign. (I'm in marketing BTW)

AAAAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHA!!!!! and some of us actually thought they were gonna drop a new standalone hardware.. hahahhah,. not gonna lie, a lil part of me thought they were gonna drop a thin mpc that had its own OS... WRONG!! hahahha, the moral of the story is never, NEVER expect anything good from akai.. NEVER! when they asked people to guess what was coming out on their facebook page I commented "ur moms vagina" all kinda peeps thought it would be a update for the 5000, 500, or a new mpc 60... hahahahahahahah!!!!!!

They just tore off the iPad case from the FLY and called it next level
