1.I'm actually interested in the software comparisons only here, anyone know exactly what the stripped down Element software doesn't have vs. the full Ren software?

2.What features are missing?

I own the REN,but want to make sure it's compatible with the Element software before purchasing, (which I'm ready to now).

well they claim it runs standard midi... the controller seems to be standard midi out, with midi over usb built in like you'd expect... so my guess is the ren which has a midi output would work at the very least that way.. no?

who knows if anything is mappable. either way, if this is a fresh build let's say of the latest ren version but built from the ground up with out the extra features of the ren software.... it may be a nice "lite" version which could be somewhat attractive.

sounds decent for what it is. now, let's see if those pads hold up... plus, i wonder what the transport runs on... midi mmc? let's hope it's something standard...

Yes I would hope it's simple and str8 to the point for mmc. As far as it loading ren projects is there any word yet on this from Akai?

i doubt it... it's the more limiting product, the ren is the more advanced product... why would they make the software able to load ren stuff? they probably wouldn't anticipate any ren owners buying this.

I have to say though, I like one thing about that hardware.... thin, compact, the only buttons on the face of the unit are actual proper functions and no BS buttons, and to the **** point. I like that in products. I use an mpd 16 for this reason even though they have higher end models.... the 16 is my favourite mpd.

I believe the Essential will be able to load individual 'Tracks' from an MPC Ren/Studio project.

my two cents... it seems that Akai should have drop it's update for the software the same date that it announcement for the Element... I mean if they did this they lower the critics and put confidence for the Element future purchasers that they'll go in a good way (same its the same software) no? What's the hurry? Or next update is no so near?

Plus, the fact it's not gonna be available before october and everybody claim that a update gonna be there soon... now they have to deal with some consumers frustration even more!!!

just my thoughts!!

I would expect them to drop at the same time since they both are downloads....
