analog or adat

hi,

i´m just about to buy the 4k but one issue for me is the outputs.

i´ve got a G5 2.5dual and a digi002 rack.
i´m thinking of getting the 8analog outputs but then i´ll be needing
a 4channel mixer or preamp(digirack has got 4preamps).
so maybee it would be cheaper to get the adatbridge but i
think that you might gain something from the analog outputs, uh?
so, what do you think:
the adat or the analog?
if someone´s using the analog, what kind of mixer/preamp are u using?

i would be really greatful for any advice

The 002 has 8 analog inputs so you wouldn't need another mixer(unless you have more gear you want to hook up) but I'd go with the adat option, this will leave you with 10 free inputs on the 002 if you need to hook up more gear. As far as losing something cuz of using the adat connection instead of the analog one, I wouldn't worry bout that.

digirack? i thought it only was possible to connect it to the 4preamps of digi.
i guess i should have paid more attention at school.

You can use all 8 of the 002 analog inputs with your 4k. The first 4 inputs are switchable between mic and line inputs and have the gain controls on the front. If you use a mics, then connect them to any of the first four inputs. Like cooo said. If you have the adat out, then you still have 8 more available analog inputs.

The only issue with going without a mixer is that you have to have Protools or some other application running in order to hear sound. Sometimes I just want to sit down and play without launching a program.

you could get a small mixer to go with this setup and have the outs from the 002 and the stereo outs from the mpc running into so that you could use your mpc without firing up your computer

actually i´ve got a 4channel behringer with one stereochannel free so thats perfect then.

there´s a "IB-4D S/PDIF digital I/O board" included in mpc4000 plus. is this board working as good as the adat board?
and also, it would bee nice to sync mpc with PT, i´ve seen there´s a wordclock out on the mpc but were is it supposed to be connected to digirack?

The spdif input is a digital stereo input and can be used silmultaneously along with the analog and adat inputs for a total of 18 inputs.

To sync PT and the MPC you can use midi beat clock or MTC.
