AND Ren/Studio.

Pete, don't want to add gas to the fire but while you're here, I'd like to just straight up ask you whether or not multi-timbrality is planned for the Ren/ Studio?

I figured what better way to put an end to most bitching and speculation than to get the answer straight from the horse's mouth. If you're bound by contract to secrecy and the answer isn't "no", then can you give me at least a semi-vague answer peruant to hope?

Thanks for all that you do Pete.

I can neither confirm nor deny that :|
I do think it's a cool feature though, and I'll def. bring it up with the team to consider it for future versions. Not for 1.5 though.

Correct...and my apologies because ^^this is much more important..

I don't want to turn this into a moanfest now (that ship might have sailed) but I am curious..and will speculate..

If (and when) multitimbral support is available to Ren users..and I am giving Akai the benefit of the doubt here that they will do right by the Ren/Studio users...will the multitimbral out (within the program) be an update to the Essential users?

This is, IMO, a question which many prospective buyers for the Element might wat to hinge their purchase on... I know it is for me.

do you mean multitimbral or virtual outs? I'm confused what you mean by multitimbral within the program.

Yes multitimbral = multiout..I figured that's presumed because it's not a rompler or even a plugin I would consider using as a multi'd instrument (or host one inside of it while it's being hosted)..Besides, it's exactly what we've been talking about the last page and half

sorry for the misnomer

Multitimbral = multiple tracks inside the ren = multiple midi channels

Like How kontakt works... you load one kontakt plug in but then inside that plugin you load up 16 pgm/kontakt instruments and assign them midi channels...

Taking it a step further ...
the midi assigning happens on the pad layer... (like how maschine works)....

So the daw can send one midi note to the plug in in which potentially the ren could have up to 16 pads triggering off that one note ...(like battery using midi learn... Very fast)

And then if virtual outs can be assigned for each pad you could use once instance for super layering......

Steal whats good with other softwares and put it all in the ren ..

Can't do it with Ren/Studio either, unless your song is drums and sample. Any full production will use more than 8 tracks.

And no, using panning to turn that into 16 virtual outs isn't realistic. Even so, most of my work is 24 tracks or more - maybe that's just me. And although a viable workaround, exporting audio isn't what I want to do either.

Bottom line, Ren / Studio isn't optimal for mixing with virtual outs either. It needs at least 32 STEREO virtual outs to be useful, and to support being the center piece of a production environment.

As a DAW user I can totally live without multitimbral functionality..as I have a few go to plugins which handle this with no issue, however, no mulit-out is a total dealbreaker.

I envision using Element w/ Essentials as a drum sampler strictly...and the vision they have for it falls flat on it's face in this regard. It's one of the simplest concepts to execute.

Why don't they just call it an MPC software demo instead of the double speak?

What they are doing is no different than saying..

"Hey, yea we are selling a mono synth...but hey, run 16 instances and layer them to trigger at the same time...and you have a 16 voice poly!!! And you have full control over the parameters of each voice!"

Ok....how about I just buy a legit poly?

@Hobbs, I couldn't think of the way to describe it, but this is a great expression of it.

I'm hoping to see 32 stereo virtual outs in the Ren / Studio software, but if I'm understanding a previous post, that's not coming in 1.5. Would have rather seen that than Essentials.

Could Essentials be useful? Possible, but not better than Ren / Studio virtual outputs.

Hey Pete - The Fly was dropped after just a few months and the users are pretty much stuck with what they have being that Akai generally doesn't update dropped products?

What assurances can you give to the buyers of the Element that the same won't happen to them? Will the Element be updated as long the full version stays current?

It's hard to tell. The essentials and ren software use the same code base so I would think that as long as it's selling well, it'll get worked on.

can you change the midi note numbers for the pads like you can on the MPDs?? also, can it be done from the controller itself if so?

Thanks for the answer Pete, I really appreciate it. Last question;

Will we ever be able to record the Ren's internal sounds to a host DAW's sequencer via MIDI?

Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to field our questions.

I'd like to know this as well...

I don't need it done through the hardware but if there was an editor, or if the Essentials software allowed it to be done in a non-volatile way (like the MPK mini, for example)...that would be good.

we'll have the midi controller mode in both essentials and ren/studio, where you can assign the hardware's pads, qlinks, and most of the buttons. That should do the trick.
