What needle are you using with the 4000?

What's good in 2013? What are you using for sampling and listening purposes? It should go well with the 4000 phono amp.

I'd caution you not to over think this. A 44-7 is absolutely fine. Great music has been made with crap needles/crap turntables/on crap speakers/with "crap" (by today's standards) equipment.

How about for just listening to music?

I don't know much about the true audiophile cart market, mostly because I can't fathom spending that type of money on a cart but, when I was over thinking this exact same thing, I bought a Shure White Label, which is still in the box mind you. After all my research, it seemed like the best bang for the buck quality needle. Only thing is, you can't backspin on it for sampling and I'm a backspinning monster.

I'm thinking about an ortifon archiv. I have read that they were a bit thin and bright though. Maybe even a nightclub Concorde.

white label and arkiv are my favs, cant go wrong with either,..but since started using arkiv have not got another white label

Which mackie board are you using? How about the turntable needle?

Ortofon 2mBlue pnp for sampling and listening and the qbert om for the kuts, on a 1210

IMO needle sounds very natural, good sound detail all across the spectrum

Do you recommend any of the Concorde style needles?

Well, I haven´t used all of theme, but the ones I work with at the moment seem to do a great job. I´ve used a Sure M44-7 before I switched to the Qbert Om. Great for scratching but didn´t sound soo good. I´d say the Ortofon is sounding a little nicer, 2m series seem to sound pretty precise in general. The red model is the cheapest, I couldn´t really afford Bronze or Black, also they recommend the Blue model for a MK II turntable that´s basically why I chose this

Arkiv all the way.

Those Archiv's are about to be discontinued. Those Cocoons look nice, a bit expensive though.
