Individual output distortion

Hello fam!!
I have a problem with my individual outputs, the sound on channel 5 is totaly distorded, do you have a solution? Do i need to buy a new ibm208??

The issue can be a power issue or a faulty opamp where it is not amplifying the signal.

Check continuity of the solid state fuses at FS501 and FS502 to make sure the board is getting power. If the fuses are good the opamp circuit may need to be repaired.

Since you do no have the experience to repair it yourself I would advise against that.

The cost of repair is probably going to be close or more than the cost of buying a used 8-output board from eBay. On eBay US used 8-output boards sell anywhere from $75-125. I would not any more than that as these boards are very common to find.

Many people have reported a similar issue specific to the Mutec boards, so Mutec may have gotten a bad batch of parts when they were original assembled. It is unknown if additional issues may arise on the same board after your existing issue is repaired.

I would purchase an Akai version of the 8-output board if you are going to get a replacement. You may be able to find someone here on the forums that will be able to beat eBay pricing.

Hey, I know what the problem is here, this is a very late reply to your problem but others may find this useful. The distortion is from the IC chip on the 8 outs board. There is an IC chip for every 2 outputs, 4 chips in total. 1 and 2 share the same chip, 3 and 4 share the same chip etc. the chip name is pcm69ap and it an easy part to find on ebay. Luckily the 8 outs board is fitted with those hot swap things the chips fit in. Sorry I don't know the technical lingo. So you can carefully remove the chip that is the issue and drop in another one without having to solder any parts.

if you have a video to show the process with before / after sound samples, that would be amazing.

If the ICs are socketed, as mentioned above, it'll be an easy swap. But make sure to replace the new IC in the proper position. Most ICs will have a small circle on top of them which will indicate where Pin 1 is located. Take note of that before pulling the faulty IC, then seat the new IC in the same direction. Push the new IC in gently so that you don't bend or damage the legs.
