Yep... schoolboy error on my part.

I've permanently lost about 3 years worth of samples, with the rest of my sounds dotted around between various drives, discs and USB sticks. I'll probably just transfer over the essentials and ditch old Reason refills and other stuff I'll never use.

I need to find a decent cloud storage solution for my main projects folder. Ideally one that's free/cheap and can house 20GB+.

MEGA gives 50 gigs for free..

but i had a HD crash about a year ago now,

and although i had a back up - and pulled somethings from it.

the clean start was kind of a blessing in disguise.

I have a 4K and a Z8. I have this massive like 40GB drum library, and here's how I've got it set up. I took the CD burner out of the 4K, so I have a main storage drive and a best of/work drive, if that makes sense. I do a lot of multi layered (up to 16 layers, but that was just goofing off, never really more than acoustic drum programs, so I'll occasionally load up a bunch of drum samples from the main folder, make a few kits, save to the best of drive. Ones for programs and kits that are already made, one is a stupidy meticulously organized storage drive.

I do this with all sorts of different instruments and all that, though none are as mix and match as drums (especially rap kits or dnb kits), so drums are where it really benefits.

My z8, which only has one drive, is a copy of my best of drive. Everytime I make a kit or bass program or anything, really, I throw it on a usb key and save to the z8 as well. It's not like this is every day, but every now and then I'll run out of ram or FX or something on the 4k, so viola....second 4k (at least the sampler part).

^^^ i really need to start making drum programs/kits that i can just load up in my new projects.

im intimidated about starting a new beat and loading a premade program into it, although i guess i shouldnt be, i suppose i wouldnt lose anything or save over anything because i would just save the program within my new project folder.

I simply rename the program. That's what I always do. I save it as 'project name'_DRUMS.pgm.

Pre made programs can really speed up the working progress

yeah i always name my drums "project name drums too" i guess it would be no different if they were from somewhere already, because i would be saving it into a new folder.
