NO SOUND comin' out of my "AKAI MPC-60"!!! Is it the pads? O

HEY EVERYONE,
I just bought an "AKAI MPC-60", sampled a SOUND yet i can't seem to trigger it off the PADS...(unless i press on the soft key immediately after i've finished sampling) Even when i press on all PADS, the MPC won't reflect what NOTES i'm pressing on the screen. Can some MPC-60 GURU, GENIUS, please help?

I've connected the stereo outs & 8 outs correctly + i know my way around the AKAI MPC-3000LE quite well so i'm almost convinced it's the PADS. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Not to sure what you mean by this:- "ASSIGNING TO A PROGRAM". I've tried assigning to a channel, checked the drum mix & still...nothing! Not a sound to be heard. Even when trying to EDIT the sound.

Could you please run me down the STEPS to do this on a "MPC-60 / vers.2" & pretend for a sec, i'mma chimpanzee, hehehehehe.

first of all. what os are you running?

if you are on pre 3.10 then its not exactly like an MPC 3000

on earlier versions of the OS you have to assign the sample to a pad prior to sampling the sound. maybe your assigning it to the hi hat pad or something. that pad doesn't work the same as the other pads on the earlier os versions.

alternately there is a way to turn on and off local control. I don't have mine in front of me, but probably somewhere in the midi section (hit the MIDI button) you can alter the midi routing etc (option 2 on the 3000). there you can turn on or off the LOCAL MODE. if you cant find the local mode setting, you can hit the OTHER button and find the (INIT PAR) option (initialize parameters) which will make the pad settings back to default. its probably gonna be soft key 1

or your pads are actually not working, in which case I've never messed with my pad sensors and can't offer any insight.

If you go into the Drum Mix screen, pressing on the different pads should move the triangle selection indicator above each pad volume level. That should tell you if the pads are working or not.

Also, make sure in the Track Data area of the Main Screen, that the channel (Ch:) is set to 16x-Drums, so that it plays the internal MPC drum sounds (the 'x' can be MIDI output port A, B, C, or D)

Channel 16 is the default internal MPC drums channel, but can be changed, so if it says Drums after the channel number, even if a different channel number than 16, it should be correct.

The default drum MIDI channel is set from option 2 on the MIDI screen, by changing the MIDI drums chan: field to the MIDI channel that you want to use for the internal MPC drums, if different to the default of channel 16.

I can't thank you all enough for your time, patience & knowledge. I've written everything down in POINT FORM & pray it's not the PADS but my gut instincts tell me it is...nevertheless the mpc-60 science & information everyone has given up has been absolutely priceless. Hats off to you all & big up!!!

Well RUBZ, you say you just bought the MPC60. Were you made aware of any problems with the pads or the machine generally? It's very unusual for none of the pads to be working so if you have no luck resolving this through software I suggest you open up the machine and have a good look at the pad sensors and specifically the ribbon connector to make sure there are no obvious faults. I'd also raise the issue with the seller at the earliest opportunity, so they can advise you...or compensate you.

Make sure the high hat decay slider is all the way up or you wont hear any sound! Then make sure the channel is set to 16a drums on the main screen
