I've never owned a 2500 however I heard it was a beast especially with the JJos. I heard it was the same as the 1k with the jjos but bigger with the larger pads and what not. The JJos really does optimize the shit out of the 1k; I'd love to get my hands on a 2500. I copped the 5k thinking it would enhance my workflow...and it does not :? . Its just the few bugs but most of all to me the chopping on it is way too primitive. The amount of time it takes me to chop a record on it I can chop 3 whole records and than some on my 1k with JJos. Don't get me wrong, the 5k sounds amazing, effects are dope, synth, all that other colorful fly shit is dope but damn...I want to get rid of it, pray that JJ puts together an os for it or exchange it for a 2500. Matter of fact, if there's anybody here that wants to exchange a completely maxed out 5k for a 2500 of the same that lives in Florida, holler at me please.

Now I know I've gone a little off the tangent with this post but to conclude, Akai is most likely never ever, ever, ever going to update any of the legend Mps unless some sort of substantial profit can be made off of a move like that. Peace

No disrespect to any other 5k users; I'm a 5k user myself.. its just the chopping on it that is a set back to me and a big one. The only things that make me weary of getting rid of it are its 64 voice polyphony, its eq'ing, effects, the resolution of the sequencer, there are a whole lot of pros..real talk. But without the 1k I'm just sitting there waiting..waiting for the time stretch to finish, waiting to hear the chops after I chop it (whereas jjos you're hearing them loop in real time while you're chopping), waiting for it to load my projects up without getting an error message. I don't know maybe I'm just spoiled with the JJos. As of now I just chop everything and try not to get too into finishing the beat on the 1k and transfer everything over to the 5k..mind you that if you finish a whole joint on the 1k it will not load on the 5k (another quagmire I've painstakingly learned to avoid), unless someone here figured that out? If so please educate me. Its just the technical shit though because it does sound amazing when you actually make a beat on it.

I am confused. :hmmm:

The thread subject says that you are asking about another official OS update for the MPC2500, and this is the MPC2500 section of the forums.

Is that what you mean, or are you talking about the MPC5000?

Not sure why you would want another official OS for the MPC2500, when JJOS is available.

MPC2500/1000 with JJOS is a beast!!
Why do you want a Akai update?
Trust me, JJOS is all you need!

I got the 1k and mainly used it just as a drum sampler(as i got heavily into fruity loops)
Then i got the courage to install jjos free.. Was blown away...

Then tried osxl .. Blown away and paid for it without hesitation...

My main beat making tool is the 1k with jjosxl.. And reaper.. They work so well together...

What's the big edge that you get when using direct recording vs audio track jjos?

There hasn't been one member on here that has reccommended against installing jjos... Almost all are pro jjos. You will blow semen everywhere and impregnate all nearby females in a 10k radius upon installing jjos and using it.. 8)

as i mentioned earlier this is not pro or contra the jj os and there might be many happy users of that os, but it does not solve my problems with akai!

all i want is akai to admit that they promised much and then let the users of the mpc 2500 alone in the rain, but updated the mpc 1000 os to get almost every feature that the mpc 2500 had and then concentrating on the mpc 3500 (that is sold as the mpc 5000 :hmmm: ) and focusing all updates on that machine.

and now they are focusing on their controller range further exploiting the mpc name.

the jj os might be further advanced and in a state of constant development which is good, but i just want a official (final) os from the manufacturer of my machine that solves the remaining bugs and (if they are really nice) they can add functions like global programm edit.

there might be a lot of people that do not even consider to demand this from nukai, because they found another way to be happy and use the os of their preference.
my preference is to get akai to stand to their promises and deliver constant updates for their machines, because if they advertise it then it is a lie if they don´t do it!

fifty percent of the voters on this poll are also with me on this subject, so even if it is controversial there is obviously some people that are also thinking that akai has done not good with us mpc 2500 users and that they should do another os update.

and i am not saying this for a few days only, as some people think "what is he asking for after all those years? it is perfectly normal for any manufacturer to drop support for "legacy" products." i have been asking akai to do this for years! and i started to demand another os update just shortly after ver 1.24 was released! so here you can again see how nukai is treating its paying customers for years!

and lastly for the question of audio tracks vs. direct recording - i don´t know exactly (please someone school me on the options of the audio tracks on jj os) as i just us the akai os, but to me the biggest difference seems to be that there are just four audio tracks on the jj os and on the akai os with direct recording i have all 64 pads that can become "audio tracks". and also the direct recording function records sequencer data to fit the recording seemlesly into the sequence. this way is way faster for me to bring all my midi tracks to audio and all my external instruments without having to sample, chop, assign to program and then play the pad to my sequence. with direct recording all this happens at once - all i have to do is make sure the right (empty) program is active and then hit the pad i want my recording to land on after i recorded a take.

and one last thing that makes me want to have an official os on my machine is the fact that all the labeling is made for that os! that might be a dumb reason for some people to not use great new options because they are not written on the frontplate and i also wold be easy to make new silkscreen labeling, but i like my mpc to be as good as it officially can be.

peace, jo

yeah, you know there are several different types of people around and as i told i am not against what jj has done as he is the one i want akai did not fire in the first place.

just imagine what he could have done if he was still at akai and does not have to derive the 2500 jj os from a stem of the 1000 os.

and what he could have done for all the other mpc...

but it is as it is - some people like to "hotrod" anything and some are satisfied if the originally sold functions are working without glitches.

i will continue to praise the mpc hardware and to condemn the nukai business practices untill noone around me is supporting these bastards anymore. if they are just in it for the money then i will always oppose that from a artists standpoint!

and some of the most successful companies on the planet love their heritage as they know where they came from and who made them big! just look at porsche for instance: they are really proud of the fact that over 60 percent of all porsche cars ever manufactured are still on the road! and they have no fear that people stop to buy new porsche cars because the used ones are so good - no they also buy new porsche like crazy!

so applause to akai japan and jj, as they (and roger linn) have developed one of the nicest music production tools ever and a big boooooh shame on you to numark who have destroyed all this and now are desperately looking for new markets with their toy controllers.

peace, jo

Well to me it ended up a double edged sword. It was cool Akai never went after JJ legally. But that could very well be because he could counter sue and has records of whatever went down when he got the source code.

Clearly they realized JJ was doing more for sales than anything they were doing with the 1000/2500. But they could have easily looked at JJ's code (well hiring a good coder to do it anyway) and try to compete, even perhaps offering a paid one themselves to underwrite the additional R&D.

But as I mentioned it's too late now. Honestly I'm shocked they never made official legal peace with JJ and hire him again. Clearly he knows what he's doing.

You are wasting your time. Akai are not going to admit anything.

Even if they do admit anything, what difference is it going to make to you?

It is clear to you, and everyone else, how Akai does business.

I don't understand your rant at all, Akai is not going to admit anything, or develop any new MPC2500 OS, it is a waste of time and energy.

4 audiotracks are only on free os and jjos1, I think since os2 you can have all 64 tracks have audiotrack but for 2500 is only freeos or os2xl to choose from, so I will compare to os2xl.

Key difference from what I read ( i have 1000) that direct recording is using a program and placing an event in seq, audiotraks don't use program and are aligned to the bar (you can change start point, exchange sample etc.)

Beside they are always continous tracks, similar to setting on 2500.
Audiotracks can't be punched in/out.
You can also have multiple passes on one track. Like sample1 from bar 3 to 8, and sample2 from 8 to 15, they don't overalapp on one track (non destructive).

As others have said, there is only Akai os, freeos, and 123$ pass for os2xl with access to os1,os2 and os3.
You say you don't need any additional bells & whistles, but I can tell you this.. if you start using os2xl you will tell yourself.. "this SHOULD have been on this unit from the very begining"

MPC1000/2500: dogged from the very first JJOS version because the choir preaching JJOS relentlessly derail Akai OS talk. Some people want to use Akai OS, but nooooo you can't do that because JJOS is much better.
