iomega zip 100/ Win7 problems

Alright so TapeDeck, thank you I now understand how it works, I need to record it to an external source in order to extract the beat from my mpc.

So let me ask you this. What kind of cassette deck is compatible with the 2kxl? Can I just pick one up from the thrift store that has like an aux jack? and then hook the two up with an aux cable and just record onto a tape while it plays?

also, when you say record it directly to my computer, can I plug it into my computer through an interface and record it like that somehow? because when I first got my mpc, I connected it just like I said, and I was able to somehow get sounds to play from the pads on fl studio and sony acid.

or could I record onto a tape through an old boombox with an aux jack? or how about like one of those stereos with a tape deck and an aux jack?

you gotta understand that recording midi will never reproduce the song, it will only reproduce the events that are triggered on *something* to create the song. your sequences in you mpc are midi events triggering internal samples. you could also use that same midi to trigger sounds in fl or whatever.

this is totally different than 'recording' your beat.

so any old tape deck would work, yes. but it might be simplest to just go straight to the computer.

what kind of audio input does your computer have? if its just a laptop, its likely just a 1/8 inch stereo jack. if you have a soundcard, it could be rca's or 1/4 mono jacks, something. i dont know, you'll have to find that out.

then you simply get a cable that is two 1/4 mono plugs on one side, and whatever else you need for the computer on the other.

then you get a program like audacity and hit record on it and play on the mpc and record the sound. then you can save that as wav or mp3.

there is a lot more to it but that is the basics.
