mpc2kxl/FL studio question(s)

What's up folks. I apologize in advance to anyone who feels I'm being lazy by not endlessly searching the google machine for this specific answer i'm looking for.

So I have my mpc 2kxl connected to my computer via usb interface and midi cables.

I've made a song on the mpc by putting all of the different sequences together and rendering it a "song". Is there any possible way I play it on the mpc while FL studio records it? So I can have a digital copy of my song rather than just having it saved to a ZIP disk?



Now also when I open up FL, I put the MPC in midi mode and then play with the pads on the mpc, the pads only play the one sound that is highlighted in the step sequencer, and all of the pads play it in a different pitch/tone/velocity. This is awesome but how do I record myself manually playing the mpc onto my FL studio? Is this possible?

I am very new to using the mpc as a midi controller, and pretty new to MPCs in general.
So what I'm really asking here is how can I make a song on the mpc and transfer it to mp3?
and
Is it possible to manually play a sequence on the MPC while FL studio records it onto the playlist/songboard?

yeah recording audio is possible on fl studio which is what you want to do in the first part of your post. You right click the record button and choose audio. actually, in the help contents thing in the help menu it shows step by step with pictures how to do it. I suggest doing that.



now, the other midi plays different pitches.... yes this is a different issue. you in that scenario are using the mpc like a controller and are triggering individual samples (or instruments) ... it plays the one you see selected in the pattern window. the thing is, if you click the button for that sampler you will see a small keyboard... the mpc pads are acting as that. you need a different pluggin to be launched to have each pad triggering different samples. try the fpc, the wave traveler, the slicer... or one of those.


honestly, download a free copy of audacity and record your mpc beats on that for a quick and easy to do thing... if you cant get the fl thing sorted.

Thanks man, i'll do the audacity thing I think that's best for my ideal use of the MPC. Because when I bought it, all I imagined doing with it was making music on the MPC itself and then exporting from mpc to mp3. But i'm getting the feel that it's not exactly that simple.

yeah for sure it is... you record all your sounds into the mpc (it's a sampler as you know) .. then you make your beat. then once you have the beat how you like it.. record the stereo outputs of the mpc into the computer using audacity... and you export as .wav (**** exporting as mp3, those are low quality compared to wav cd quality)

boom, you made the whole beat on the mpc, and "exported it" which actually means you recorded the song from the mpc to get the result on the computer.

So I just downloaded audacity, but I have my mpc connected to the computer via usb interface with midi ins/outs and I can't get my sound to come all the way through to the computer, it picks something up, but it's not all there, it doesn't really play anything back.

Is this because i'm using the midi and not using the stereo outputs?

What kind of cable(s) do I need to connect the stereo output? like 1/4 inch stereo out to 1/8 inch headphone jack in?

hey man like i said in the other thread - you got to use audio cables.

i very clearly explained the exact ones you needed.

if you are using anything but those, it wont work.

for now, if it says anything about midi, forget it.
forget fl studio. that is a whole other ballgame.

tapedeck, I assume the dual 1/4 mono to 1/8 stereo jack should work since i'm only working with a laptop?

no need to assume anything.

it it doesn't fit one end into the mpc and the other into the laptop/interface, it wont work.

take a break from the internet and just get in there and try plugging stuff in - i dont think youll break anything.

but again - audio only. forget about midi for now.
