I have a similar problem -

I bought a slightly used mpc 1000, upon opening it all of the buttons worked. Once restoring it to factory settings, the "mode" button will not longer lite. The click sound is still there, just no lite???? And it was lit just 1 hour earlier?!?!

sorry to necro this thread, but just wanted to say THANK YOU!

my mpc is 2nd hand; had it forever and suddenly the mode button stopped working, almost couldnt be bothered to get it fixed, till i saw this thread.
i followed the instruction convo between pupusa.revolution and poundaproblem.. basically took the mpc apart, removed the white conectors and that ribbon that connects to the pads, unscrewed the mother board, then replaced the faulty tactile switch (soldering etc).

almost couldn't believe it when i put it back together (had an extra screw..? ) and turned it on and it worked straight up :) mode button just like new.

I resurrected all my stiffening switches with a dollop of sewing erl,
wd 40 might even be better.

But now that Nukai is out of the MPC business,
this is an important thread to have.

We're all (mpc purists) gonna have to get our solder on eventually.
